‎Railway Nationalization in Canada - The Problem of The Canadian National Railways‎

‎Toronto: The Macmillan Company of Canada Limited. Fair. 1935. First Edition. Hardcover. 0405137761 . 1935 First edition. "Presents an analysis of the financial and operating record of the government railway system in comparison with its private competitor the Canadian Pacific railway System and an appraisal of the problems which have arisen from the competition of government with private enterprise. The experiment in railway nationalization in Canada is shown to have resulted in a heavy financial drain upon the Dominion Tresaury. The solution to the problem in the author's opinion is a cessation of competitive railway operation in Canada under a plan which provides for the unified management of the two railways under private administration but with adequate regulation." - Foreword. 2 Volume 4°, full cloth, label on spine with title and date, complete of plates, maps are missing, little foxing, spot on 5 sheets (tome 1), waterstains on plates (Tome 2). The first journey was made to the mouth of the Coppermine River, largely overland and with the aid of canoes. The coast east of the mouth was surveyed. It is one of the most terrible journeys on record, may of the party dying from cold, hunger, or murder. The distance travelled was some 5,500 miles, and Franklin's narrative at once became a classic of travel literature. Franklin's second overland expedition made its departure from Fort Franklin on the Great Bear Lake. He traced the North American coast from the Mackenzie River , while John Richardson's partly explored the coast between the mouths of the Mackenzie and the Coppermine. The two expeditions together added 1,200 miles of coast line to the knowledge of the American continent, and Franklin received several honours and became a popular hero. The views of the Arctic scenery in this work are noted for their beauty", the plates were engraved by Finden, from drawings by Hood and Back. Sabin 25624‎

‎A Paris, Chez F. Buisson, An VI de la République (1798). Portrait-frontispiece of Franklin by Duplessis and engraved by Alex. Tardieu. Two volumes. (4), viii, 382 pp.; (4), 438 pp. 8vo. First edition of this translation and followed by various other works, among which the famous Bonhomme Richard and various other pieces for the greater part not published before in French. The first complete publication of his memoirs was published in 1868.‎

‎Seeing Reds - The Red Scare of 1918-1919 Canada's First War on Terror‎

‎Vancouver B.C.: Arsenal Pulp Press. Very Good in Very Good dust jacket. 2010. First Edition. Hardcover. 1551523736 . Signed and inscribed by author upon title page. "At the end of WWI Canada was poised on the brink of social revolution. At least that is what many Canadians inspired by the success of the Russian Revolution in 1917 hoped and others dreaded. This book tells the story of this turbulent period when a fearful government tried to suppress radical political activity by branding legitimate labour leaders as 'Bolsheviks' and 'Reds.' The story builds toward the events of the Winnipeg General Strike when the authorities believing that the expected revolution had begun sent soldiers into the streets to put down with force a legitimate labour dispute." - dust jacket. 280 p. Footnotes. Index. Black and white reproductions of photos. Clean bright tight and unmarked with very light wear. An excellent signed example. ; 8vo; Signed by Author . Arsenal Pulp Press hardcover‎
