Joan Baez Donovan Maybelle Carter Peter Paul & Mary Mississippi John Hurt but who cares. That Sunday night July 25 Dylan took the stage with guitarist Mike Bloomfield and Barry Goldberg of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band Dylan with a Fender Stratocaster - a scene familiar to all from Martin Scorsese's documentary No Direction Home - thereby changing the course of pop music forever. That night at Newport in an abbreviated performance he opened with "Maggie's Farm" and followed that with "Like a Rolling Stone" which had only been released five days earlier and "It Takes a Lot to Laugh It Takes a Train to Cry." He finished his performance that night with two acoustic songs "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "It's All Over Now Baby Blue." He never played at Newport again. This issue of the program also prints a short story of sorts by Bob Dylan "Off the Top of My Head" featuring off-the-top-of-his-head characters Horseman Photochick Miss Flunk and the Prez. <br/><br/> Newport Folk Art Foundation unknown books

n.p. 1973. Small 8vo approx. 8½ x 6 inches in black Flair pen and apparently torn from a notebook; 3 small holes not significantly affecting any legibility otherwise very good. A typically enigmatic inscription: "Proud of you" in a hand-drawn box at the top to the right of which is a small drawing of a face / "You never sniffed drainpipes but you two words crossed out have a good one word crossed out grasp of the alphabet - Highway 51 one word crossed out is not your road!" Signed boldly at the bottom "Bob Dylan / 1973" to the left of which signature is another drawing by Dylan of the rear end of an automobile depicting smoke coming from the tailpipe. Partly drawn from the lyrics of one of his masterpieces Desolation Row: "Einstein disguised as Robin Hood / With his memories in a trunk / Passed this way an hour ago / With his friend a jealous monk / He looked so immaculately frightful / As he bummed a cigarette / Then he went off sniffing drainpipes / And reciting the alphabet." <br/><br/> unknown books

Saint Joseph Michigan 1891. Map. Very Good. Map. 1st Edition. A RARE late 19th century Michigan map apparently unrecorded dated by "Soundings taken December 11th - 18th 1891". A manuscript map by E.C. Dunbar Ass. Engr. on translucent vellum architectural paper 39" x 30" "Scale 1 inch = 100 feet Soundings reduced to zero of U.S. guage react - 20 ft." Drawn in black ink with State Street in pencil and red ink for the Vandalia Lines Depot Grounds area. Very Good light soiling and light wear at edges "24" in black ink at bottom right and top corners with the 24 top right inked out and replaced with "106-17" in black ink. Of particular interest is the small drawing about half way up the right edge of a shore bird with a frog in its mouth! Along with several streets the map shows The Morrison Channel St. Joseph River and the Pawpaw River. It also shows the lines of the West Michigan Railroad Cincinnati Wabash & Michigan Railroad and the Lake Michigan Railroad Vandalia Lines. 1891 was the year that Saint Joseph was incorporated as a city. An amazing piece of Southwestern Michigan history. . hardcover

Written in 1937 this book dispels the long held theory that these ruins that are found in several areas along the Georgia coast were ruins of Spanish missions built before Oglethrope's arrival. In fact they proved to be structures built in the nineteenth century for cane sugar refining. The first edition of this book was limited to 750 copies and most are in public libraries across the United States. Book Condition is Fine; navy cloth over boards with gold lettering on spine. 275pp. First Edition. Not a remainder or ex library. 275pp. End papers are maps showing location of the nineteenth century Sugar houses and some of the Spanish missions located down the Georgia coast. B&W illustrations a couple of b&w photos bibliography and index. Book is clean and tightly bound sharp cornered unmarked with no apparent wear. Dust Jacket Condition is Very Good; clean matte jacket with price intact. Two very small open chips to jacket and a small closed tear no loss of paperr on front of jacket. Front panel and spine appear just a smidge lighter than back panel. Covered with a removable mylar dust jacket. Signed on the verso of the preliminary page across from title page dated with a short inscription. Overall an exceptional copy of this scarce important work on nineteeth century Georgia history. London: Printed by A. Strahan 1819. xx 426pp appendix. Contemporary full leather with maroon leather title label in gilt to spine. Prev owners signature dated 1828 on title page. Fore-edge damp stained affecting all pages and covers mainly confined to the margins a few pencilled lines in margins. For the last 50 pages there is some slight loss of paper at margins with only minimal loss of a few letters in printed marginalia on one or two pages and the loss of the page number on the final page. The paper in the margins remains very brittle. Pages 306-395 deal exlusively with laws pertaining to the slave trade and its abolition making this a significant early documentation of abolition. Further significant sections deal with tobacco various forms of alcohol live stock coffee and other agricultural products including spices and the transport of aliens among many other topics. Extremely scarce - I find only one copy passing through auction in the past 20 years that copy being similarly damaged. Photographs and specific detail on request. First Edition. Hard Cover.
