One of his best known works is his statue of a young Abraham Lincoln which graces his alma mater Ripon College. Shaler inscribes and signs this copy of the Holmes book large and bold in black ink on the front flyleaf: "To my friend / Edward Israel / With all good wishes / C.A. Shaler."
