‎State Papers and Publick Documents of the United States from the Accession of Thomas Jefferson‎

‎Boston: T.B. Wait 1815. First Edition. Octavo. 502p. Contains the letters between James Madison and James Monroe on the diplomatic problems between Great Britain and France. The treaty of 1807 is printed here in full which was soon to be violated by Great Britain leading to the "War of 1812". Besides tracing the British blocades from 1793 to 1808 it also lists the problems with the French decrees in the same period and also of the French West India and Spanish decrees. Here is listed the Inaugural address of President Monroe in 1809 and also his address to both houses of Congress. A remarkable official glimpse into the fledgling new nation and how it faced the repeated violations of larger powers particuarly on the high seas. Some violations are addressed and received compensation but many were politely ignored. This is volume 2 of the original 3 volume set devoted to international treaties. Bound in modern leather endpapers renewed raised bands two red leather labels gilt. Very good. T.B. Wait unknown books‎
