Large folding color lithograph panorama of the east and west prospects of Washington Avenue in Minneapolis from 8th Avenue South to Fourth Avenue North the whole in an oblong quarto binding original brown cloth gilt lettering on upper cover. The panorama extends to a total length of 30 feet 15 feet for each side of the avenue; each building is identified in the margins and the bustle of everyday city life is captured in the many people horses carriages etc. depicted throughout. Publisher's advertisement on 4 unpaginated pages following text for "W. M'Culloch printer bookseller and stationer No. 306 Market near Ninth-Street Philadelphia." Although lacking title page this first and perhaps only issue of this religious periodical was definitely published by W. M'Culloch William McCulloch as p. 19 contains a letter addressed to "Mr. M'Culloch" regarding the insertion of a letter in "your first number" of his "Christian Magazine." Not in Early American Imprints 1st series Shaw & Shoemaker. No other copies of this publication have been located. It is not known whether there is any connection to the publication of same name begun in Edinburgh 1797. Although his work as a printer is not well-documented in Early American Imprints Evans or Shaw & Shoemaker this is the William McCulloch of "William McCulloch's Additions to Thomas's History of Printing." Contents: On the Gospel by Eubulus; The Extent of a Minister's Work in Preaching the Gospel by Beart; Observations on the Manner of Travelling in the Holy Land from Harmer; On Christian Hope by Benevolus; Extract from a letter from the Rev. Booth of London with a plan for the establishmend of a Baptist Society in London for the encouragement and support of Itinerant Preaching; The Death of the Saints Illustrated by C.R.; An Essay introductory to the Study of the Controversy Between Christians and Deists by Y.; The Life of the Rev. Nearly complete run 1935-2009 287 of 296 issues single issues in wraps bound in brown buckram to create a very durable set ideal for institutional use. Each hardcover contains two occasionally three volumes thus 8-12 issues. Deaccessioned by the Spruance Library of the Bucks County Historical Society though not marked as such with ghosts of call labels on lower spines of early volumes otherwise showing only slight use with contents a bit thumbed here and there many/most issues apparently unopened. Virtually complete through Vol. 74 2009 4 issues per year missing only the following 9 issues: 52.4 53.1 and 4 58.1 and 2 67.1 70.2 and 3 70.4 thus 287 of 296 issues. Vols. 52 53 58 and 67-74 are not bound still loose. The collection does not extend beyond 2009. A rare opportunity to obtain a near-set otherwise virtually impossible to assemble given that the Berks History Center no longer stocks vintage back issues of its journal. The Irish Volunteers Memorial Meeting and Military Hall Festival October - November 1877
Charleston South Carolina: The News and Courier Book and Job Presses 1878. First Edition . Hardcover. Good/None as Issued. Good/1st ed. This copy had some mottling to the cloth over boards but has been professionally stabilized and dyed to match the cloth over the boards. However as can be seen in the pictures the edges of the two covers are still mottled all the way around on both covers. 35pp. a reprint of a series of articles from the News and Courier October 10 1877 about raising funds for a monument to honor the fallen Irish Volunteers that fought in two wars. Also includes a description of a flag created by the ladies of Charleston for the Gen. Maxey Gregg's Regiment of South Carolina. The next article describes the reopening of the Miltary Hall Festival on November 6 1877. The next article is a sketch of the Irish Volunteers 1782-1801-1778 which covers 3 pages back and front. There is a two page article about a banner presentation I beleive the aforementioned flag for the Irish Volunteers at the Catholic Cathedral in Charleston on September of 1861.The last article is A Visit to Col. Gregg's Regiment also from the Charleston Courier which also addresses the presentation of a flag and reminding the Charleston citizens to donate to provide the soldiers with winter clothing. There are two muster rolls for the Irish Volunteers: the first a list of soldiers that volunteered their services to the state of South Carolina on September 16th 1860 and the Roll of the Irish VolunteersCompany K that volunteered for the Army of Northern Virginia. Theres also a muster roll for soldiers mustered into Confederate Service as Company "C" Charleston Battallion. The previous owner has listed two soldiers as the last living members of this company as of August 1896. This little book was printed by the Charleston News and Courier and is printed on newsprint that the paper was printed on and is double row on each page. The paper is pliable and there is some light foxing throughout the book. Prevouis owner's name is on the front pastedown. the binding is tight the hinges are secure and firm the gutters are intact and there is a shadow on the front free endpaper from what I'm guessing was a newspaper article left in the book. The title is in gold lettering on the front cover. I found only one copy of this book available --in the Charleston College. Happy to answer any questions about the book. Quite a lot of information about the Irish Volunteers of Charleston and their warm relationship to the citizens of Charleston. <br/> <br/> The News and Courier Book and Job Presses hardcover
