Elmer Bernard Sword BGE B G E
The Story of Portsmouth Ohio
Portsmouth Ohio: Compton Engraving and Printing 1965. First Edition. . Soft cover. Very Good. VG/stated First Edition. This was written in 1965 by local school teacher Elmer Bernard Sword B.G.E. for the town's Sesquicentennial Celebration. There were 2 versions of this book printed: a hard back and this version which is a series of 6 small paperbacks. Both versions are scarce---I've found none for sale at this time and there are only 27 copies owned by various libraries. All six booklets are in terrific shape: clean and the staples are tightly secure. The back covers have a table of contents for each booklet or part. The first booklet has notes on the back inside cover; there is no writing or soiling in any of the other books. There are in the six books 128 pages total. with some old photos and a few illustrations and maps. The first booklet states that this a first printing. The history starts with information about the author and then moves to the earliest Ohio Indian inhabitants the "Mound Builders" around 1799. The history continues until 1952 the Atomic Boom Period. Sure to delight any Ohio history buff. I'll send them along in an acid free document bag for storage and I can have them in the mail to you tomorrow.
