‎Fredericksburg Texas: Shearer Pubishing 1984. Z5 - A hardcover book SIGNED by Elithe Hamilton Kirkland on the front free endpaper in very good condition in good dust jacket that is mylar protected. Dust jacket has some wrinkling chipping and crease on the edges and corners scattered light scratches rubbing and scuffing light tanning and shelf wear. Book has some bumped corners some wrinkling on the spine edges some scattered light stains and scuffing on the page edges light tanning and shelf wear. 9.5"x6.5" 502 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. This is the extraordinary story of Harriet Potter - the delicate dark-eyed girl who became a legend during the stirring days of the battle for Texan independence and who played a dramatic part in the growth and destiny of her beloved and beautiful land. Harriet Potter was many things. She was the frightened young girl abandoned with two small children in a savage lonely wilderness and left there to die. She was the proud beauty dressed in a silken gown and mud-spattered slippers waiting to ride away from the approaching Mexican armies with the man she loved. To some Harriet was the scheming shameless wanton who deserted her husband to take up with another man - a man linked with a sensational scandal. To the Caddo Indians living in the rich forest and lake country of Northeast Texas she was the "kishi-woman" kindred to Ina the Earth Mother. And to others she as "The Bravest Woman in the Republic of Texas" - heroine of a thousand tales each one taller than the last and each one true. Harriet's story is a story of stormy passion and idyllic love of jealously and vengeance of unbearable loneliness and suffering and of triumph over all the odds life could present to one beautiful courageous woman. But above all it is the story of her three great loves: for the Gambler - the man with the hero's face and a coward's cunning; for the Statesman - who swept her along in his headlong escape from a hideous past; and for the Trader - with whom she was to know true and lasting happiness. . Signed by Author. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Shearer Pubishing Hardcover‎

‎ELLSON (Hal).‎

‎LANCASTERIAN SCHOOLS IN PHILADELPHIA. Thesis.‎

‎pp. vi, 88. Tall 8vo. Original printed wraps, very slightly worn at head of spine. Very nice copy. Joseph Lancaster (1778-1838) was a British educator who developed the system of mass education known as the Lancasterian method, a monitorial, or "mutual," approach in which brighter or more proficient children were used to teach other children under the direction of an adult. In the early 19th century the system, as developed by Lancaster, Andrew Bell, and Jean-Baptiste Girard, was widely used to provide the rudiments of education for numbers of poor children in Europe and North America. It was especially popular in Philadelphia. PA PAMPH 20_9 BX3‎
