Cloth taped spine. Manuscript presentation from the Marquess of Bute to Robert Stephenson. Bute Docks: Following the development of the coal found in South Wales, the export of both coal and iron products required a sea connection to the Bristol Channel. In 1794, the Glamorganshire Canal was completed, linking the then small town of Cardiff with Merthyr, and in 1798 a basin was built, connecting the canal to the sea. By the 1830s, Cardiff became the pre-eminent iron-exporting port, shipping almost half of British overseas iron exports; between 1840 and 1870. Lack of proper dock facilities led Cardiff's foremost landowner, John Crichton-Stuart, 2nd Marquess of Bute (1793-1848), to promote the construction of the (West) Bute Dock. Designed by Admiral William Henry Smyth (1788-1865), hydrographer, astronomer, antiquary, and author of this work. It opened in October 1839. Just two years later, the Taff Vale Railway was opened, following much the same route as the canal. Bute created modern Cardiff, Wales and the docks there. Robert Stephenson (1803-1859) was an English civil engineer. He was the only son of George Stephenson, the famed locomotive builder and railway engineer (many of the achievements popularly credited to his father were actually the joint efforts of father and son). Several stamped Nazi Eagle ownerships of the Oberlandesgerichts Nurnberg. First Edition of the Codex Maximilianus. Bavaria, under Maximilian I (1598-1651), was a country of around 1 million inhabitants, with agriculture and salt production (a ducal monopoly) being the dominant sectors of the economy. It became a key player in the events leading up to the Thirty Years War. In 1608, Bavaria occupied and annexed the hitherto free Imperial and Lutheran city of Donauworth. The action caused the Protestant princes and cities to found the Protestant Union. Bavaria then concluded an alliance with the Austrian and Hungarian Estates. In 1609 Bavaria became the leading force in the newly founded (Catholic) Holy League, an alliance formed against the Protestant Union. Consolidating his governance, Duke Maximilian, in 1616 introduced a new Bavarian Landrecht (Law Code), which was a compilation, reworking, and summation of all the laws and codes. Includes the codes of: Judicial Procedure; Court Laws; State Laws; Police Law; Forestry, hunting, and fishing regulations; Etc. Legatura in piena pelle, 5 nervi al dorso, tassello in pelle rosso al dorso con titoli impressi in oro. Importante opera composta dal poeta scozzese Falconer dopo la sua lunga carriera nella Marina Militare, l'autore morirà nel 1769 a seguito del naufragio della fregata Aurora, sulla quale si era imbarcato, nei pressi del Capo di Buona Speranza. Il volume al suo interno raccoglie 11 delle 12 splendide tavole incise ripiegate fuori testo che illustrano la costruzione di alcuni tipi di imbarcazioni (manca la tavola X). Le tavole presentano alcune riparazioni con nastro adesivo, la tavola I è staccata. I piatti risultano completamente staccati. Nonostante alcune sporadiche piccole fioriture il volume all'interno si presenta in buono stato.
