An oval luggage label very good printed in red & black on white paper 9 x 6.7 cm. a couple of old tears mended on verso clean nice example with former owner's name and ship name inscribed. OBSCURE ITEM ! . . This is a very early luggage label from a Hong Kong Hotel. Per the citation below the King Edward Hotel was established in 1906. Per the note below: The King Edward Hotel was located at 3 Des Voeux Road entrance on the corner of Ice House and Des Voeux -big fire in 1929 . Chung Tin Building -5 Des Voeux Road address from in a court case . There was an alleyway between the King Edward Hotel and Alexandra Building. The top floor of the adjoining Savoy hotel was gutted in the fire. newspaper hotel fire story 11 March 1929 . In 1952 the Alexandra Building Royal Building and Chung Tin Building were demolished and the 13-storey Alexandra House occupied the full site. . THE FORMER OWNER OF THE LABEL: This label was given to the occupant of the hotel C. M Buekus Junior Officer of the President Garfield ship. . Color photos are posted to our website. . CONDITION: The item is in very good condition it was used and "lifted" from another sheet of paper which had a mild tear the label is solid now with a small chip in the top and a mended tear to the right. . Kowloon 1956 Maiyai Co. Four A-4 sheets ca. 21 x 27.5 cm. 5 horozontal folds some wrinkles 3 pages of textile sample materials tipped down English texts signed letter by C.T. Shu for Mayai Co. very good. OBSCURE UNIQUE ITEM The letter is dated 8 June 1956 to a past client introducing a large number of textile samples so the client may select material for their next order. Mayai & Co. P.O. Box 5248 Kowloon Hong Kong had a retail store at 120 Nathan Road Kowloon in the Princess Theatre Bldg. and used also a cable address: "Mayaico." The letterhead also has their Chinese name address telephone number. The three additional sheets of textiles have actual samples: Sheet 1: has 13 samples about 3 x 2.5 cm each. Sheet 2: has 15 samples about 4 x 2 cm. each. Sheet 3: has 14 samples about 4 x 2 cm. each. The samples are for ladies: suit day dress trousers dress. CONDITION: The letters are basically in very good condition there is a small bit of the corner missing from the letter at upper right corner and some mended closed edge tears all in all very clean and solid examples. There are the old folds made when the letters were put into an envelope and sent to their customer. else nice samples. A lovely example of textiles used in fashions during the mid-1950's. . unknown
