Later, Jews came by way of Mid Eastern trade route, and the first permanent Jewish settlement in China, whose descendants are still present in K'ai Feng, was in the ninth of tenth century. Their numbers grew large enough to be noticed by the central government in the mid 1300s. After the first early settlers, though, no new Jewish communities were created in China until the 1800s; consequently, the K'ai Feng Jews were diluted through, intermarriage with the Chinese, both in religion and ethnicity over the centuries.
