JEAN-BAPTISTE ANNIBAL AUBERT DU BAYET, (French General and politician during the period of the French Revolution, and an 18th-century ambassador to the Ottoman Empire), (1759-1797).
Autograph document signed 'Aubert du Bayet', with six other co-signatures by other politic figures.
Very Good French Original manuscript autograph document signed by Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet. 31,5x20,5 cm. In French. 1 p. With a blind-stamped seal. A legible and fine handwritten letter. English: General Aubert du Bayet, Ambassador of the French Republic near the Othomane gate, the departure of the company of Artillery, light employee in the instruction of the Turks and that of the French officers previously employed or destined to the service of the great lord; Decrees that the citizen Collin, former major of the infantry who came to Constantinople after authorization from the government, will return to France shortly and that he will benefit for this purpose from the building which will lead the company of light artillery to Ancona [sic. Angora - Ankara]. Jean-Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet (19 August 1759, Louisiana - 17 December 1797, Istanbul) was a French General and politician during the period of the French Revolution. Aubert du Bayet was born in Baton-Rouge in the French American colony of Louisiana in 1759. Aubert du Bayet participated in the campaigns in America during the American Revolutionary War. Aubert du Bayet arrived in France at the beginning of the Revolution, but was initially hostile to revolutionary ideas. While in Metz, as a young Captain, he published an anti-Jewish pamphlet entitled Le cri du citoyen contre les Juifs. However, he soon saw that it could serve his ambitions. He became a member of the legislature in 1791. Aubert du Bayet was President of the French National Assembly (the "Legislative Assembly") from 8 July 1792 to 22 July 1792. In 1793, he served as General of Brigade in the heroic defense of Mayence in 1793, when he finally had to surrender to the Prussian Army. He then seconded Hoche in Vendée in the fight against the Chouans in the War in the Vendée. He then became Minister of Defense of France ("Minister of War") from 3 November 1795 to 8 February 1796. In 1796, General Aubert du Bayet was appointed as ambassador ("Minister of the Republic") to the Ottoman Empire. He was sent to the Ottoman court with artillery equipment, and French artillerymen and engineers to help with the development of the Ottoman arsenals and foundries. Infantry and cavalry officers were also to train the Spahis and Janissaries, but they were frustrated by the opposition of the Janissaries. Ironically, some of these troops, trained to Western methods, were successfully employed against the French troops of Napoleon a few years later under Sir Sydney Smith at the Siege of Saint-Jean d'Acre in 1799. Their behaviour delighted Selim III, and upon their return, they were named Nizam-gedittes or "New Regulars", but they were eventually slaughtered and dispersed by the Janissaries and conservative clerics and politicians, leading to the deposition of Selim III. Aubert du Bayet died of fever in 1797, in Constantinople. Co-signed by six politic figures in its period, however, they cannot be determined. Very rare.

Jacek Malczewski's journey to Anatolia.= Jacek Malczewski'nin Anadolu'ya yolculugu.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In English and Turkish. 135 p., b/w plts. Lanckoronski had picked the young artist Jacek Malczewski for 'recording on paper' his voyage of 1884 to Anatolia; a compilation of the young artist's trip notes, and drawings and watercolours he produced during and soon after the voyage was published by Joanna Winiewicz-Wolska in Polish in 2009. Malczewski's observations on regions he described as 'skies, land - all are a miracle' and the information he gathered, particularly his illustrations documenting Antalya and environs, made it valuable for AKMED's mission. This point taken as a pinpoint, the work is republished bilingually in English and Turkish in order to reach out to wider audience.

Very Good French Original red cloth bdg. Repaired binding skillfully. 12mo. (17, 12,5 cm). Edition in French. [2], 134 p., 3 numerous folded planches. Memory aid for the use of Swiss artillery officers. Chapter 3: Fire hydrants. Personal seal of Ferik Ahmed Muhtar Pasha, (1861-1926). He is one of the pioneers of Ottoman/Turkish modern military historiography. Trained as an artillery officer, he dedicated himself to scientific researches on military service and to officer teaching, deserving the title of scholar-soldier. He gave lectures on artillery, firearm technologies, ballistics, war history and European military literature at Mühendishane and Harbiye and has been commissioned for arms procurement from abroad. He has written a large number of reference works. Today, he is accepted to be the founder of the Military Museum, which operates in the old Mekteb-i Harbiye building in Istanbul. This rare book is from the personal library of Ferik Ahmed Muhtar Pasa. Only one copy in OCLC: 457298396 (In Aargauer Kantonsbibliothek).

Johann Wilhelm Zinkeisen.
Osmanli Imparatorlugu tarihi. 7 volumes set. Translation from English and German: Nilüfer Epçeli; From Latin and Italian: Erendiz Özbayoglu; From French: Mustafa Das; From Greek: Levent Kayapinar; From Spanish: Özlem Kumrular.
As New English In original cloth bdg. HC. Large Roy. 8vo. In Turkish. 7 volumes set: 5004 p. Mint. Zinkeisen's study is the most comprehensive one on history of the Ottoman Empire with Joseph von Hammer. However, Ottoman - European relations had the precedence in his work unlike Hammer's work. "Johann Wilhelm Zinkeisen ( 12. April 1803 in Altenburg; 5.

JOHN FREELY, AUGUSTO ROMANO BURELLI.
Sinan: Architect of Suleyman the Magnificent and the Ottoman golden age. Photographs: Ara Güler.
Fine Fine English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. Large 4to. (42 x 32 cm). In English. 143 p. Color photos. Sinan was the greatest architect of the Ottoman Golden Age of the sixteenth century - when the Ottoman Empire reached its zenith of power and magnificence. At the same time as Michelangelo was working on St. Peter's, Sinan completed the greatest of Turkish mosques, the Suleymaniye and the Selimiye. His style marks the apogee of Turkish art. The son of Christians, Sinan was drafted as a boy into the Imperial Corps of Janissaries, and took part in many of te Ottoman campaigns in Eastern Europe during the 1520s and 1530s. Beginning as a military engineer and designer of fortifications, he was appointed Chief Imperial Architect in 1538. Under Suleyman the magnificent and his successor Selim II, Sinan designed hundreds of buildings: mosques, palaces, tombs, mausolea, hospitals, schools, caravanserai, bridges, aqueducts and baths. As he himself said, 'with time each edifice became - with the help of Allah and thanks to the generosity and benevolence of the State - the very image of the world in the lands ruled by the Ottoman dynasty.' In his greatest works, he adapted Byzantine and Islamic styles to produce something quite new: a centralized organization of absolute space unhindered by pillars or columns and covered by a soaring dome. An architect of genius in a dynamic new empire expanding into both Asia and Europe, he was a true man of the Renaissance. Opulent colour illustrations - may photographed especially for this publication - pay tribute to the extraordinary space and light of Sinan's buildings. Texts by the most important specialists in this field complement the handsome visual material and offer new interpretations of Sinan's art. The result is a magnificent testament to the achievement of one man, who stamped his imprint on an entire culture.
