MUSTAFA KAYMAKÇI, CIHAN ÖZGÜN, FUAT YALDIZ.
Turkish foundations in Rhodes and Kos.
New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. 304 p., ills. Turkish foundations in Rhodes and Kos. Turks living in the Aegean islands of Rhodes and Kos under Greek sovereignty have a multitude of problems at present. These can be summarized under various headings such as Citizenship, the Right to Education in Turkish, Free Practice of Religion, Environment of Hatred and Oppression, Foundations (Waqfs) and Protection of Cultural Heritage Inherited from the Ottoman Turks. Greece has been implementing various policies for the cultural assimilation of Island Turks. Part of cultural assimilation policies adopted by Greece was its actions towards cutting off all ties between the Turkish foundations and island Turks, and consequently destroying architectural monuments inherited from the Ottomans. It is known that establishment of the foundations on the islands started with the Ottoman conquest of Rhodes and Kos in 1522. Over the centuries, foundations led to the development of a feeling of unity and solidarity among the island Turks. Foundations have provided opportunities for island Turks in important areas from worship services to education and has also contributed to the preservation of common traditions. After the end of the Second World War, the island was assigned to the sovereignty of Greece in 1947, Greece started launching a policy for the gradual destruction of Muslim Turkish foundations. Unlike other foundations in Greece, foundations in Rhodes and Kos are subject to heavy taxes in addition to the same property taxes as commercial institutions. On the other hand, the Greek governments compelled the foundations to sell part of their properties by continuously forcing the Foundation Administration to make huge payments. By dwindling the Turkish foundations, Greece has been trying to bring the Turkish presence in Rhodes and Kos to an end. In summary, the Turks living in Rhodes and Kos today are on the brink of losing their Turkishness let alone preserving their cultural identity, including foundations. An atmosphere of fear prevails among the island Turks and they feel intimidated. We wish that the book Turkish Foundations in Rhodes and Kos will be beneficial to researchers who will conduct studies on this subject and also raise awareness in the international arena on the assimilation policies implemented by Greece.

MUSTAFA KOÇAK.
Aphrodite am Pfeiler. Studien zu aufgestützten / angelehnten weiblichen figuren der Griechischen marmorplastik.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (28 x 20 cm). In German; and Turkish abstract. [x], 244 p., many b/w plates.

MUSTAFA NECATI [UGURAL], (Turkish statesman in the early years of the Turkish Republic, who served as the Minister of National Education during the reform period), (1894-1929).
Autograph letter signed 'Mustafa Necati' sent to Turkish female poet Halide Nusret Zorlutuna, (1901-1984).
Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript autograph letter signed (ALS) addressed to Turkish female poet Halide Nusret Zorlutuna, (1901-1984). 22,5x17,5 cm. In Ottoman script written on a fine and special Italian hand-made paper with 'Aurelius' watermark. 1 p. on bifolium. Dated March 13, 1926. It starts as "Muhterem hemsire...". 4 lines. Signed as 'Maarif müdürü' [i.e. Director of Ministery of Education] by Mustafa Necati. Mustafa Necati Ugural was a Turkish statesman in the early years of the Turkish Republic, who served as the Minister of National Education during the reform period. He died before the Turkish Surname Law was adopted and the surname Ugural is actually the surname his family members adopted after his death. Mustafa Necati was born in 1894 in Izmir. His father was Halit and his mother was Naciye. After his primary and secondary education in Izmir, he went to Istanbul for higher education and studied law. He returned to Izmir in 1914 to serve as a lawyer and teacher. In 1915 he established a private school with his friend Vasif Çinar. He also served as a legal adviser for the local railway company. After the First World War in which the Ottoman Empire was defeated, the Allies fired the railway workers. He tried to defend the workers' rights by establishing a committee. Later he expanded his activities to defend the rights of the reserve officers who returned from the front. After Izmir was occupied by the Greek army, he fled to Istanbul and then to Balikesir, where he began to participate in the Turkish War of Independence. Among other things, he published a short-lived newspaper to defend Turkish rights against the Greek invasion. After the Ottoman parliament in Istanbul was abolished by the Allies on 16 March 1920, Turkish parliament was established in Ankara on 23 April 1920 and Mustafa Necati was elected as the Saruhan (present Manisa) MP. However, during the 1920-1922 term, he spent most of his time out of Ankara. He was appointed as a member of Independence Tribunals in Sivas and then Kastamonu. Finally, he was appointed as the chairman of Amasya Independence Tribunal. As soon as the Republic was proclaimed on 29 September 1923, Mustafa Necati became a government minister of Ismet Inönü's cabinets. His first seat was Minister of Exchange Construction and Settlement in the 1st government of Turkey. This was a very important seat for its main responsibility was the Population exchange between Greece and Turkey. In the 2nd government of Turkey, he was the Minister of Justice. However, his most important seat was that of the Minister of National Education following a revision in the 4th government of Turkey. He kept this post in the 5th government of Turkey till his death. Up to 1928, the Arabic script was used in Turkey. However, the Turkish language has 8 vowels and the Arabic script remained incapable of reproducing the Turkish words. Nevertheless, being the script of the Quran it was considered to be inalterable. But president Atatürk decided to adopt the Latin alphabet (with small changes). Moreover, he insisted that the reform should be carried out immediately. In addition to adding the Latin alphabet to school curricula, short term courses for the adults called Nation's schools (Turkish: Millet Mektebi) were established. As the minister of National Education, Mustafa Necati was responsible for establishing these courses. The courses were successful and Necati was later considered to be one of the pioneers of the new Turkish alphabet. (Wikipedia).

Mustafa Sabri the past grand Mufti Sheikh al Islam of the Ottoman state 1286 1371 AH. 1869 1954 AD.
Mas'alat tarjamat al Kur'an the question of translating the Quran to other languages
Cairo: al- Salafiyya press 1933 Book. As New. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 4to - over 9 - 12" tall. 146 p. Arabic text published by Muhib adDin al Khatib in 1351 AH. 1933. The book is a criticism against the Turkish regime and its decision to translate the Kuran and accept the translation as a religious text instead the Arabic one. Original printer wraps and modern fine binding. Mustafa Sabri Efendi one of the last Ottoman Sheikh ul Islams chief jurisconsult of the State and head of the Ottoman religious establishment. Sabri was a leading scholar and politically active figure of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the Ottoman State and was appointed Sheikh ul Islam four times in the final years of the State. Due to his resistance to the Committee of Union and Progress Ittihad ve Terakki and Mustafa Kemal he lived half of his life in exile in various countries and died in Egypt. The merit of Sabri's thought lies in its full reflection of influential theological and philosophical currents in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and in its recognition of the crucial importance of ontological and epistemological problems for contemporary Islam. Sabri emphasized that the epistemic structure of Islamic thought had collapsed meaning that the first task of the Muslim psyche would have to consist in learning how to conceptualize and to formulate systematically its own positions on what "being" is ontology and what "knowledge" is epistemology in terms intelligible to others. MUSTAFA SERDAR PALABIYIK.
From coexistence to conflict Turkish and Greek relations in an age of Turmoil, (1821-1922).
New English Paperback. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In English. 285 p. This book analyzes the Turkish and Greek narratives of shared Turkish-Greek history by focusing on the "long nineteenth century", which was a period of turmoil for both societies. The four centuries of Ottoman rule over the Greek community, the Greek rebellion/war of independence, emergence of an independent Greek state, Ottoman reforms with regard to millet system, joint efforts of some Turkish and Greek communities for the re-promulgation of the Ottoman Constitution, increasing tensions between the Committee of Union and Progress and the Greek community and finally the transformation from coexistence to conflict during and after the World War I are covered briefly with the conflicting lenses of Turkish and Greek historiography. The book also attracts attention to Greek claims for a Greek Genocide by the Ottoman/Turkish authorities during and after the World War I and questions whether inter-communal clashes in Western and Northern Anatolia in this period can be considered as genocide in accordance with international law.
