A study on a chronicle of final phase of the Cretan War (War of Candia), 1666-1669 is the name given to the Fifth Ottoman-Venetian War. Grand Vizier Köprülü Fazil Ahmed initiated large preparations in the winter of 1665 / 66, and dispatched 9,000 men to bolster the Ottoman forces in Crete. An Ottoman peace proposal, which would have allowed Venice to keep Candia against an annual payment of tribute was rejected, and in May 1666, the Ottoman army, under the personal leadership of the Grand Vizier, departed from Thrace for southern Greece, whence it would embark for Crete during the winter. In February 1667, the Venetians received significant reinforcements from France and Savoy, totaling 21 warships and some 6,000 men, but, as in past years, disagreements among the leaders of the various contingents over precedence (France, the Papal States, Malta, Naples, Sicily contributed ships and men) hampered operations. Francesco Morosini, now again Captain General, sought to engage the Ottomans, but they avoided battle, and using their superior resources and bases, they steadily kept their forces on Crete supplied. The only allied success in 1667 was the repulsion of an Ottoman raid on Cerigo (Kythera). "Akhisar and its surroundings in the Middle Bronze Age with the contributions of the excavations of the Hastane Höyügü consists of five sections. The general geographical characteristics of the region mentioned, the information given by the travelers of the 17th, 18th and 19th century about the region and previous researches are explained. Hastane Höyügü located in Akhisar district is the only Protohistoric settlement where excavation works were carried out in the area. Hastane Höyügü was taken as the centre in determining the geography covered in this book. The other settlements come from a total of 104 mounds detected as a result of surface surveys of the above-mentioned scientists. Among these mounds are 10 mounds dated to the Middle Bronze Age. In this context, the location of each mound, research history, SGT status and the dates of the meetings of the SIT are explained. Each of the finds of the mound were given the necessary technical information about the catalog, especially compared to other Western Anatolian centers which are contemporary of the profiles of the ceramics. Thus, it is understood that Akhisar, which forms the connection between the north and south regions of the Aegean due to its geography, has similar finds found in many centers in Panaztepe, Limantepe, Baglararasi, Beycesultan and Troia in Western Anatolia...".

Ulema and politics: The life and political works of Ömer Ziyâeddin Dagistânî, (1849-1921).

This work is an analysis of the life of Ömer Ziyâeddin Dagistânî (1849-1921) and two of his political works, which he completed as a Sufi scholar (âlim). Throughout his life, he served in various parts of the Ottoman Empire as well as occupying various positions such as mufti of a regiment (alaymüftüsü), deputy judge (nâib), professor (müderris), and Naqshbandi sheikh. He wrote two political works during the Second Constitutional Period: Hadis-i Erbaînfî Hukuki's-Selâtîn and Mir'ât-i Kânûn-i Esâsî. This study makes use of the biography writing as a theoretical framework. The method of analysis consists of qualitative research and written history found in archival documents. This study will shed light on Dagistânî's life and the events that occurred during his life span, and makes use of primary sources as well as secondary sources. By focusing on his life, political works, and ideas as a scholar, this thesis will contribute to the studies on interconnectedness between individual and institutional aspects of social reality in the context of biography.
