‎Saray ve ötesi. Son hatiralar. 3 volumes set.‎

‎Very Good Turkish Modern aesthetic cloth bdg. Very good+. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. [xiv], 1104, [17] p. B/w ills. Halit Ziya Usakligil was born in Istanbul in 1865. He went to primary school and then attended the secondary school Fatih Rustiyesi in the same city. His family moved to Izmir in 1879. He completed his secondary education in Izmir attending the school which now is known as Izmir Atatürk Lisesi. He later attended a Christian school to learn French where he completed his first translation works. Usakligil founded the newspaper Hizmet in 1886. After 1896 his works were published in the Turkish literary journal Servet-i Fünun, known for its adoption of European literary styles. When his novel Kirik Hayatlar (Broken Lives) was censored by the Ottoman Regime in 1901, he stopped publishing novels. Broken Lives could only be published in 1923 after the establishment of modern Turkey. Usakligil's early style is based closely on French Romanticism and most of his novels deal with unfulfilled love. His work is distinguished from contemporary Turkish literature by its more concrete form and creates its own artistic language through the use of Persian and Arabic loanwords. In his later years the writer moved to the village of San Stefano near Istanbul. In 1926, when a new law imposed to give a Turkish name to each community, he suggested to give to the village its present name of Yesilköy (literally: "Green Village"). Memoirs of Usakligil.‎

‎The Dardanelles Campaign in world media, 1915.= Dünya medyasinda Çanakkale Savaslari, 1915.‎

‎New English Original bdg. HC. 4to. (27 x 20 cm). In English and Turkish. 224 p., ills. How do you suppose the Dardanelles front, one of the most important fronts in Turkish history, echoed in a world without radio, television or internet? The fight did not stay only in the land, sea and air; there were deep battles in the writings of the press and in the drawings and art of print media. This book is the culmination of ten years of work to assemble more than eight hundred of the thousands of cartoons, propaganda posters, illustrations and postcards about the battle of the Dardanelles from the world press describing Turkey. What do you say to examining the battle on the media front between the Allied and Central powers through the lens of the visual riches that were published by the press elements and newspapers of that time period? The weapons of this battle are pens sharper than swords, as well as photographs, cartoons, illustrations, propoganda posters and postcards more effective than the bullets in place of which they are used!‎

‎Kurulus dönemi Osmanli sultanlari.‎

‎New Turkish Paperback. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. 291 p. Kurulus dönemi Osmanli sultanlari. The Ottoman sultans of the formative period. The Ottomans were the builders of one of the longest living and most effective political institutions in world history and established a state spread over a wide geography. This book sheds light on the history of the Ottoman State, ruled by the Ottoman dynasty; we look on this history via the biographies of seven of the sultans who ruled during the formative period. Moreover, the military and political aspects of this formative period are brought to the fore. The author, the leading living authority in the field of Ottoman history, has not only examined and evaluated Western and Eastern documents, both Byzantine and Ottoman sources, such as cronicles and waqfiyyah deeds, but has also provided support for his ideas with toponimical- topographical and archeological field studies.‎

‎The Ottoman Empire and Europe: The Ottoman Empire and its place in European history.‎

‎New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). Edition in English. 272 p. The Ottoman Empire and Europe: The Ottoman Empire and its place in European history. "The history of Europe and the history of the Ottomans are two parallel histories; for this reason, the history of the two worlds should be studied comparatively.". (Halil Inalcik). From the middle of the fifteenth century on, the Ottoman Empire played a crucial role in shaping European history. This factor has not been weaved into Western historiography to its detriment, because explaining concepts such as raison d'etat, realpolitik, balance of power or even European identity remain somewhat short changed without the role of the Ottoman Empire in the evolution as well as functioning of these concepts. The Ottoman Empire is generally depicted and perceived as the adversary and antithesis of Europe and Europeanness in Western historiography because of certain historic reasons such as the Christian crusading tradition, public hostility due to long lasting warfare, cultural estrangement and perhaps because the Ottomans remained outside the Enlightenment process. However, there is much more to it than struggle. Our research findings presented in this compilation point to the impact of the Ottoman Empire in shaping modern Europe, specifically as of the sixteenth century and socio-cultural exchanges between the two realms through five hundred years of encounter.‎
