Cambridge authorizes James Macmanus Esq. to appear on his behalf. Witnessed by Andrew Curtin. Signed on the reverse by James Gilliland prothonotary and Samuel Milliken. James Macmanus was an attorney in Centre County Pa. Peter Cambridge had a general store in Bellefonte Centre Co. Andrew Curtin 1815-1894 was from Bellefonte Pa. and was a lawyer before serving as governor of Pennsylvania from 1861 to 1867; he later served in the U.S. House of Representatives and as U.S. Ambassador to Russia. James Gilliland 1804-1889 was prothonotary of Centre Co. from 1831 to 1836. During the Civil War Gov. Curtin appointed Gilliland commissary and quartermaster of the 1st Regiment of Pennsylvania Veterans; later he was transferred to Washington as assistant agent for Pennsylvania.
