The Old Farm from The Story of an Old Farm
New Brunswick New Jersey: Rutgers University Press 1961. Very Good condition. A clean copy. No owner's name or bookplate. Spine has light reading creases. Pages are unmarked. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Softcover. 5.25" wide by 8" tall. Bound in the original pictorial wrappers. Index. From the rear cover: "The story of an old farm and the stone house and the people among whom the Mellick family first set down its roots in 1751 is the story of a way of life and the birth of a nation. The Mellick old farm was different from other farms of its kind only in the fact that it was subsequently blessed with a literate and perceptive spokesman who capably and with great tenderness wrote about his ancestors and the life they carved for themselves out of the wilderness that was then Lesser Cross Roads near what is now Bedminster. THE STORY OF AN OLD FARM published in 1889 has long been unobtainable but has been recognized as a classic for many years. THE OLD FARM is a carefully abridged portion of the original work that retains all the flavor and charm of life in New Jersey during the eighteenth century." . Reprint of the 1948 edition. Softcover. Opinion of Messrs. Meredith & Binney As to the Right of the Corporation of the City of Philadelphia to the Use of the Water and Water-Power of the River Schuylkill at Fair Mount Dam; March 1843
Philadelphia: J. Crissy printer 1843. Paperback. Very Good. 15 p.; 22 cm. Disbound from a volume of unrelated 19th-century pamphlets. The commissioners of the Spring Garden district before it became part of the city of Philadelphia sought to be allowed to construct a waterworks on the Schuylkill River although under the current arrangement the city provided Spring Garden with water through its charter with the Schuylkill Navigation Company. Philadelphia attornies William M. Meredith and Horace Binney provide their opinions that such a bill would infringe the rights of the city.
