In 1949 all of the gold mines had been shut down and the tourism boom had not yet begun. However looking just at the last page it is interesting to see the variety of names from the English Winterbottom to the Basque Ybarra the Chinese Yow and Yep and the Italian Zuccone. 28 pp in stiff tan stapled wrappers. Includes a double page street map a list of local organizations with meeting places and dates the US mail arrival and departure schedule and the location of all the fire alarm boxes. Illustra inoltre le difficoltà, e la conseguente frustrazione, incontrate dalla popolazione locale nel tentativo di riconoscersi in tradizioni condivise, mentre all'orizzonte si affacciavano sempre nuovi abitanti. Oggi, però, dal momento in cui possiamo affermare che la colonizzazione ebbe inizio con una vera e propria invasione, gli australiani sembrano essersi riconciliati con il proprio passato, in attesa di nuove sfide per il futuro.
