A French royal decree concerning an earlier Arrest: "Instituting a safe deposit where holders may leave shares rather than run the risk of loss or theft by keeping them in their houses or when going on a long journey" Maggs 279. This Arrest declares that after January 1 1724 these will be invalid. Wroth records only one copy at NYPL and OCLC adds just one more at the John Carter Brown Library. In 1719 John Law's Compagnie d'Occident absorbed several other entities to become the present Compagnie des Indes. Wroth lists three copies; OCLC adds only one more. A variant issue with a slightly different title of this important edict which allows members of the nobility to trade by sea without foregoing any of their privileges. Previously their activities had been circumscribed by ordinances preventing their entering commerce. Apparently a catalyst for this edict was the formation of the Compagnie des Indes in 1664 which is specifically mentioned in the text. A note on the last page states that this copy was collated against the King's Ministry copy. OCLC locates only one copy at the University of Oxford. Rare. A French royal decree releasing the Compagnie from some of its debts an important step in its reorganization. In 1721 the Compagnie had declared bankruptcy and was reorganized after the Mississippi Bubble burst. "This decree discharges the Compagnie des Indes of a large number of financial burdens which had been weighing on it for a number of years" - Maggs. Wroth locates only one copy at NYPL; OCLC identifies three more copies. This Arrest was "prompted by the unloading from a Dutch boat coming from Alexandria and the public sale in Dunkirk a free port of a certain quantity of coffee. The interesting legal point is here raised as to the validity of the Company's privileges in this case as regards its coffee monopoly in a free port" - Maggs. Wroth does not cite any locations for this title only mentioning that it had been reprinted in LE COMMERCE DE L'AMÉRIQUE Avignon 1764. E. Jarchow to the front pastedown.The Delhi Durbar or Imperial Durbar was a mass assembly organized by the British at Coronation Park Delhi India to mark the succession of an Emperor or Empress of India. Also known as the Imperial Durbar it was held three times in 1877 1903 and 1911 at the height of the British Empire. The 1911 Durbar was the only one that a sovereign George V attended.
