‎Adlai Stevenson For President Committee Archive of Correspondence Mailings Press Releases etc. All circa 1956. Perhaps 150-200 Pieces‎

‎No Place: No publisher. Unbound. Good. Adlai Stevenson For President Committee Archive of Correspondence Mailings Press Releases etc. All circa 1956. Perhaps 150-200 pieces. Most single typed sheets or memos with a few Adlai Stevenson newsletters telegrams etc. Three letters appear signed by Adlai Stevenson although it is not known whether it was him signing or a secretarial signature. The archive is from a well-connected insurance company executive who appears to have been active in Democratic politics. The archive has a vast amount of duplicate copies of original typed letters sent by the previous owner as well as responses mostly relating to fundraising events donations etc. Seating arrangements for events present as well as lists of donors etc. The typed letters from Stevenson signed by him seem to address the previous owner on a personal level so they may have known each other. Adlai Stevenson was a governor of Illinois and ran for president in 1952 and 1956 losing to Eisenhower both times. He served as the US Ambassador to the UN from 1961 to 1965. All in GOOD condition with two hole punches at the top edge. Minor creasing and wear with pencil notations to many of the pieces. No publisher unknown‎

‎Adlai Stevenson Fundraising Dinner April 25th 1956 at the Waldorf Archive of Correspondence and planning‎

‎No Place: No publisher 1956. Unbound. Good. No publisher or place. All 1956. Approximately 30-40 pieces. Most are duplicate typed sheets as well as some blank fundraising forms and envelopes and a lengthy guest list including number of tickets needed. These papers relate to a campaign fundraising dinner Adlai Stevenson and his campaign held on April 25th 1956 at the Waldorf. This includes duplicates of letters of invitations addressed to a variety of people; confidential campaign memos; blank fundraising forms; and a lengthy guest list that includes Eleanor Roosevelt among others. These are from an executive of a very large international insurance firm name of owner and firm withheld for privacy. The owner was a highly placed executive in an insurance company and travelled throughout the world extensively. They were active in politics through donations and fundraising and it appears their family was friendly with the Roosevelts especially Eleanor Roosevelt. The previous owner's work for the insurance company led them to meet with various heads of state worldwide including US government officials. Some of the people associated with this firm were also involved in World War II activities including financing the Flying Tigers in China as well as work for the OSS using knowledge gained from insurance work. While we have not found any direct connection to intelligence work by this owner their ties to those who did are strong. GOOD condition. All housed in a manila folder. Some are stapled many bear creases and are toned with some pencil or pen notes scattered throughout. No publisher unknown‎

‎Archive of typed Letters Correspondence and Business Papers relating to An American Insurance Company's expansion in Pakistan circa 1954-1960‎

‎No Place: No publisher. Unbound. Good. With signature of an alleged double agent. Well over 100 pieces. Most pieces are typed copies of originals although many bear signatures from the correspondents or authors. The earliest pieces document the US insurance company's considerations in expanding into Pakistan including discussing what the impact of Islam may have on the government. Later documents address expenses and investments as well as expansion within Pakistan. Of note is at least one document bearing the signature of a one time double agent for the US and Russia. While the name is withheld here for privacy the person originally served in the OSS during World War II. While serving as one of the higher ranking OSS agents they also transmitted secret information to Russia including allegedly mention of the Manhattan Project. In the 1950s they were accused of being a double agent and while strongly suspected they were not officially charged and they themselves denied accusations. However in the 1980s secret Russian documents were decoded in which code names for double agents were given and this person was found to be among those names. They subsequently worked for this company; thus their signature appears on a document or two. From the archive of an executive of a very large international insurance firm name of owner and firm withheld for privacy. The owner was a highly placed executive in an insurance company and travelled throughout the world extensively. They were active in politics through donations and fundraising and it appears their family was friendly with the Roosevelts especially Eleanor Roosevelt. While we have not found any direct connection to intelligence work by this owner their ties to those who did are strong. All in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition with varying degrees of creasing wrinkling minor soiling and staining. Some with pencil or pen annotations by the previous owner. No publisher unknown‎

‎Calvert TX: Calvert Colored High School Publisher 1932. Wraps. Good. Single sheet folded into four pages 8 ½ by 5 ½ inches. Cover mentions day and location of the commencement May 23rd at the WW.O.W. Temple. Interior lists the names of the senior class students as well as class officers Board of Education members and faculty members. The Calvert Colored High School was built in 1929 with aid from the Rosenwald School Fund. It was originally named Calvert County Training School. This school was a step toward providing real education to Black students in the area as most of the students at that time attended "plantation" schools until they were old enough to work in the fields. The school offered vocational training although apparently focusing on skills that would not conflict with occupations commonly held by white people Texas State Historical Landmark text. The school changed its name to the W.D. Spigner High School in 1961 named after its long time headmaster. GOOD condition. Appears to have been removed from a scrapbook or photobook as there are large areas of black paper adhered to the blank rear page. Horizontal fold crease present. Minor toning wrinkling and creasing. ‎Cincinnati: VThe Crosley Corporation Publisher. Unbound. Very Good. no date circa 1939. Roughly 3 by 6 inch booklet unfolding into 6 panels. Black and white photos of a Crosley car included as well as a blue colorized one on the front. A brochure issued presumably for the 1939 World's Fair touting the as of yet produced Crosley car. Production for consumers would start in 1939. Crosley known for its manufacturing of radios and car accessories began this venture to offer sub-compact cars to US consumers. Cars and other vehicles were produced from 1939 to 1952 with production suspended during World War II. While initially popular especially during gas rationing sales declined by 1952 because of competition from larger auto makers. Brochure includes descriptions of the vehicles specifications etc. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning and edgewear. VThe Crosley Corporation, Publisher unknown‎

‎Dodge J.R. Township and Rail-Road Map of New Hampshire. 1854‎

‎Nashua NH: Published for J.R. Dodge 1854. Unbound. Poor. Single sheet 34 ¾ by 24 ¼ inches. Linen backed varnished map. A map created primarily to depict the many railroad lines that were proliferating in the state of New Hampshire in the mid 1800s. Some of these lines ranged into to White Mountains to facilitate logging operations in the region. The counties of the state are prominent with towns also depicted. VERY POOR condition. Ex-library with a title label affixed to the reverse. Heavy creasing and tearing to the entire piece with some loss along the extremities and to the face of the map from the cracking/tearing. Map toned and faded with the varnish not doing it any favors. Some soiling and staining. The map is extremely fragile and will be prone to further deterioration with more handling. Any wear you can imagine it's probably on this map no pun intended. Sold as is. Published for J.R. Dodge unknown‎

‎Boston: Thomas Hollis Chemist Publisher. Unbound. Good. French Hair Dye. For Coloring Grey Red or Light Hair a Beautiful Black or Brown . Directions for use sheet. Thomas Hollis Chemist Publisher. Boston: no date presumed sometime between 1826 and 1853 based on the address of 30 Union Street in Boston. Thomas Hollis was located at 23 Union Street after 1853. Single piece of paper folded into two approximately 8 by 10 sheets each containing the same information. A short paragraph of directions for using French hair dye "without coloring the skin or injuring the hair." His sons took over the business in 1875. GOOD condition. Moderate uneven darkening with a few small faint dampstains to the paper. Minor wrinkling. A hint of staining and soiling.
