Eusebio Francisco Kino 10 August 1645 � 15 March 1711 was an Italian Jesuit missionary geographer explorer cartographer and astronomer. For the last 24 years of his life he worked in the region then known as the Pimer�a Alta modern-day Sonora in Mexico and southern Arizona in the United States. He explored the region and worked with the indigenous Native American population including primarily the Sobaipuri and other Upper Piman groups. He proved that Baja California is not an island by leading an overland expedition there. Clark. 44 13pp. A somewhat humorous look at the lives of the class of 1885 of Dartmouth College recounting on campus and off campus antics of many of the class members portraying the group as a rather boisterous bunch. Hovey was a once noted poet who died after stomach surgery. This is an early printed appearance by him. In GOOD condition with mathematical calculations in pencil on the rear wrap and minor notations on the front wrap regarding Dartmouth. Moderate darkening to the wraps mostly along the extremities with minor to moderate soiling and minor spotting. Some chipping to the extremities mostly at the corners with a 1 by � wide strip missing along the upper front edge. Spine with a 3 inch split along the front upper hinge. Pamphlet. 15 pp. A speech considering the readmission of Louisiana to the Union philosophically pondering the implications of the Civil War and the Southern or Rebel States and their leaving the United States or Union. It appears Howard favored treating Southern states as foreign countries and not allowing them the rights of former states. Jacob M. Howard helped Abraham Lincoln and other drafting and passing the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery as well as working on the 14th amendment. GOOD condition. Heavy tattering chipping and creasing along the extremities. Minor toning and soiling. Pencil note on the upper front cover suggesting the item was a gift from Henry W. Longfellow of Cambridge although no provenance for this is available. Several pages unopened along the top edge. Outer pages almost completely separated along the spine. Towers, Printer unknown

A speech on a bill to compensate Susan Decatur widow of Captain Stephen Decatur among others. Hubbard uses this speech to recount many details of the First and Second Barbary Wars as well as the War of 1812 highlighting the naval actions undertaken by Stephen Decatur. This includes the seizure and burning of the Philadelphia in the port of Tripoli while in command of the Intrepid. Other ship seizures by US naval forces are discussed with brief details given. FAIR condition. Pamphlet is separated into three sections comprising two signatures and a single leaf of pages 9/10. Moderate browning to the first and last page with minor browning in the interior. Minor scattered foxing. Small dampstain at the upper fore edge. Some creasing minor chipping and tearing along the extremities. No Publisher unknown
