‎Erste und einzige Ausgabe dieser lithografierten Folge von 30, durchwegs mit kundiger Hand und detailreich ausgearbeiteten Tusch- und Bleistiftzeichnungen, darunter auch einigen Gemälden (wahrscheinlich Aquarelle) von Carl Mienzil (1855-1916), Lieutenant im Dienste der österreichisch-ungarischen Okkupationstruppen in Bosnien und der Herzegowina. Der Militär und begabte Zeichner Mienzil ist heute auch als bedeutender Kunstsammler (u.a. von japanischen Farbholzschnitten) überliefert, in diesem Zusammenhang in den Jahren 1913-15 auch als Beiträger für die »Internationale Sammlerzeitung«. - Die laut Deckeltitel und Datierung auf einigen der Blätter im Jahr 1882, und damit vier Jahre nach dem Okkupationsfeldzug entstandenen und mit Kurzlegenden versehenen Zeichnungen Mienzils zeigen vornehmlich Ansichten von bzw. Szenerien mit Staffage vor bedeutenden Gebäuden oder Stätten (Tore, Türme, Konake, Friedhöfe, Brücken) in oder bei größeren Siedlungen, wie etwa Jajce, Kiseljak, Travnik und Zenica, weiters „Bosnische Typen“ (eine Frau in Tracht „aus den Bergen“, „Katholiken“ und eine „Türkin“, außerdem militärische oder wirtschaftliche Motive wie ein Barackenlager oder den Eingang zum Schacht des ersten Kohlenbergwerks in Bosnien (beides in Zenica). Bemekenswert ist auch die Darstellung einer Szenerie in einer türkischen Kaffeestube. – Die Seitenwände der Kassette an den Gelenken gebrochen, Einband stellenweise gering fleckig und mit hs. Besitzervermerk, einige Blätter leicht fingerfleckig, sonst sauberes Exemplar dieser äußerst seltenen Mappe, die über WorldCat und KVK weltweit in keinem einzigen weiteren Exemplar nachweisbar ist.‎

‎Erste Ausgabe dieser wichtigen dreibändigen Geschichte Dalmatiens mit dem unter dem Titel "Memoria degli avvenimenti successi in Dalmazia dopo la caduta della Repubblica veneta" erschienen Nachtragsband, selten. - Giavanni {deutsch Johann] Cattalinich (1779 - 1847) studierte in Split, Rom und Zagreb. Nach seinem Dienst in der Armee zog er sich vom Dienst zurück und "lebte in Spalato der Wissenschaft. Sein erstes Werk, welches im Drucke erschien, war: `Storia della Dalmazia 4 Bde. (1835), worin er Dalmatiens Geschichte von ihrem Anbeginn bis zu Venedigs Fall erzählt." (Wurzbach II, 311). - "Frutto della sua operosità fu una Storia di Dalmazia che stampò a sue spese in tre volumi (Zara 1834-35). L`opera, tradotta anche in lingua croata, è la prima compilazione moderna della storia regionale; essa si avvale per la parte antica e medievale dell`opera del Lucio e di altri, mentre si diffonde nella descrizione degli aspetti civili ed ecclesiastici del periodo veneziano, con maggior cura per il `700. ‎Summary The Enlightenment has often been used as a fundamental reference point for understanding the evolution of societies. Nevertheless, the broad nature of this term hides great inequalities between different historiographical traditions, with some countries considered to have 'ownership' of this intellectual and cultural current, which arose in the eighteenth century, while other lands have been considered at best peripheral, or at worst have been wholly disregarded. This is particularly true of the Ottoman Empire, and of the Balkan states, founded in the first decades of the nineteenth century, which have often been studied only through their relationship with France, Great Britain, and German. This, however, is not sufficient for understanding how these countries entered modernity. The studies gathered in this book seek to question the invention of the National Enlightenment, the history of representations of the European Enlightenment and their variations in Balkan space and time, and the phenomena of acculturation and rejection that can be identified in the histories of these lands in order to offer new insights into the contradictory aspirations of nations that have often been torn between several different models of society.
