One of most recent initiatives of the History Foundation in the field of history education, namely "Improvement of the Balkan History Textbooks Project", was completed in September 2002. This eight-month pilot project was supported by UNESCO, the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Turkey. The planning meeting in Istanbul (June 17th-18th,2001) was followed by a workshop in Pamporovo (September 8th-9th, 2001) and a conference in Istanbul (November 30th-December 2nd,2001), with the participation of teams from Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Romania and Turkey. The project aimed to bring together academics and history teachers from the Balkan countries; to review primary and -particulary- secondary level history textbooks currently in use; and to propose alternative ways of reflecting the political, social and cultural history of these countries. The main objective of the project was to prepare a final report on the history textbooks and the teaching of history in the five Balkan countries. Sine history education is in a 'transition period' in each of the five Balkan countries, this book at hand, which is the final report of the project should be considered as a 'snap shot' of the current state of the history education in the Balkans.

8vo, br. ed. pp.195. Nel 260 d.C. l'imperatore Valeriano viene catturato dal 're dei re' Shapur I: finirà i suoi giorni in Persia in una vergognosa prigionia. Per i Romani è una catastrofe senza precedenti, ancor più terribile di quella avvenuta a Carre nel 53 a.C. Roma si trova così a dover affrontare la fase peggiore della crisi che affligge l'impero nel terzo secolo. I Persiani premono sui confini orientali, i territori dell'Europa occidentale sono sconvolti dalle incursioni delle popolazioni barbariche, mentre in tutto l'impero infuria la persecuzione dei cristiani voluta dall'imperatore, che vede in questa religione una minaccia per la tenuta dello Stato. La cattura di Valeriano provoca movimenti separatisti all'interno dell'impero stesso che portano l'usurpatore Postumo a creare un impero delle Gallie. Ancora più della disfatta di Carre, la fine ingloriosa di Valeriano peserà come una macchia indelebile nell'immaginario romano.

Grand in-8 broché de 25 x 18 cm, 99 pages. Couverture brochée rempliée. Nombreuses eaux-fortes noir et blanc sur des pages hors-texte avec papier de soie. Nom de l'éditeur en filigrane de la page de faux-titre. L'un des 400 exemplaires sur vélin à la cuve, celui-ci portant le numéro 322. "Le capitaine Peter Gansemann avait, après un séjour d’un mois à Naxie, laissé entre les mains de M. Phrangopoulo un certificat par lequel il informait la postérité la plus reculée, dans le but de servir à tout ce que de raison, que M. Phrangopoulo était l’homme le plus honorable qu’il eût jamais rencontré, et l’avait nourri lui et son équipage pendant son séjour forcé dans l’île, générosité d’autant plus méritoire, ajoutait le reconnaissant capitaine, que ce digne consul lui avait paru vivre dans un état voisin de la misère." État moyen à bon : nombreuses rousseurs sans perte au texte ni aux illustrations, papier de soie décollés, plats un peu froissés, dos qui fait son âge. Intéressant exemplaire montrant que plus de 40 ans après la mort de Gobineau, sa littérature continuait à voyager au Brésil, pays où il avait représenté la France et s'était lié d'amitié avec l'empereur Dom Pedro II. D'abord publiée en 1872 dans le recueil "Souvenirs de voyage", la nouvelle Akrivie Phrangopoulo apparaît ici pour la première fois en édition propre.
