First US edition hardback bound in the original yellow cloth with printed titling and design to spine and upper board. 20.5 � 14cm 200pp. A collection of twenty-two folk tales from Ondo bush in West Africa here told by Bata Kindai Amgoza Ibn Lobagola an American from Baltimore real name Joseph Howard Lee who created the identity of a native of Africa and had a long and successful career as such. The book is illustrated with black and white drawings throughout the book and has duotone endpapers and frontispiece. Examples of the stories are "The Big Hippo Who Was Too Noisy and Clumsy" "The Witch-Woman Who Bewitched the Fish" and "The Three Hundred Wicked Monkeys". Lobagola even describes in his introduction how the tales were told in song with everyone taking a line whilst sitting round a fire. Condition: This copy is in good plus condition.
