Fine. 1760 15.50 x 20 cm 2 volumes reliés Manuscript created around 1760 bringing together several theatrical pieces mostly comic operas but also vaudevilles and parodies always accompanied by songs and music. The music and songs are found at the end of the volume 104p. at the end of volume I 41p. in volume II. Fine manuscript with very legible and neat handwriting the titles in bold. Most of the pieces are paginated separately. Contemporary full marbled brown calf binding. Spine with raised bands and decoration. Brown calf title label for volume I red morocco title label for volume II volume labels in black wax. The typography of the pieces being noticeably different the fleuron on the spines as well the two volumes are however by the same hand and form a set but the bindings of these two volumes were certainly done separately and not at the same time. Lacks to head of volume I. Tear with lack to foot of volume II. Lower joint of volume II cracked at head and foot. Rubbing particularly to joints raised bands and corners. One corner bumped. Interior perfectly fresh. 8 pieces in volume I 11 in volume II being 19 pieces as well as several ""Pot pourris"" by Vadé romances and vaudevilles which are all sorts of sung parodies. Paris 29 Août 1950 21 x 27 cm une feuille Autograph letter dated and signed one page by Jean-Louis Barrault addressed to Thierry Maulnier 34 lines in blue ink on a recto verso sheet Central folds inherent to the mailing some foxing spots on the letter. Jean-Louis Barrault returning from a tour in South America hastens to respond to Thierry Maulnier in order to consider a radio adaptation and possibly theatrical adaptation of his text Une ville sous la mer: ""I do not know if this purity would remain in a theatrical realization but this confirms to me that you must absolutely give us the opportunity as soon as possible to serve you directly on the theatrical plane."" The theatre man therefore proposes to his correspondent to meet soon to make concrete this nascent project: ""I would be happy this winter if we could see each other sometimes and begin this rapprochement which must lead one day soon to a beautiful work by you realized with love on our stage."" and invites him to come and absorb the atmosphere of the troupe he directs: ""Tell yourself that you are at home at the Marigny. You can drop by at any hour - even during rehearsals. It is the best way to know each other thoroughly."" This project would indeed come to fruition but without the participation of Jean-Louis Barrault: Une ville sous la mer which became La Ville au fond de la mer was broadcast on radio by RTF on July 1st 1950 with as principal interpreters Maria Casares Roger Blin and Marcelle Tassencourt Thierry Maulnier's wife and Michel Witold. A theatrical adaptation would see the light during the Normandy festival in Caen in August 1953 with in the principal roles Monique Mélinand Jean Servais Jean Martinelli and Michel Piccoli. s. n. unknown

The author uses several approaches to produce a powerful comparative study of languages most notably those of the islands of South-East Asia Mexico and Peru dress and traditions. Scherers conclusion notably relying on Classical literature and various accounts of voyages is that the people of the Americas had several different migratory origins including Chinese African and Asian tribes. One of the rare plates with Cubist inspiration. Boussingault's collaboration with the Gazette caught Poiret's attention who commissioned him an important decorative ensemble for his boutiques. Original engraving created for the illustration of La Gazette du bon ton one of the most beautiful and influential fashion magazines of the 20th century celebrating the talent of French creators and artists during the flourishing of Art Deco. Famous fashion magazine founded in 1912 by Lucien Vogel La Gazette du bon ton was published until 1925 with an interruption during the War from 1915 to 1920 due to the mobilization of its editor-in-chief. It consists of 69 issues printed in only 2000 copies and is illustrated notably with 573 color plates and 148 sketches representing models by great couturiers. Upon their publication these luxurious publications ""addressed bibliophiles and fashionable aesthetes"" Françoise Tétart-Vittu ""La Gazette du bon ton"" in Dictionnaire de la mode 2016. Printed on fine laid paper they used a typeface specially created for the magazine by Georges Peignot the Cochin character later adopted in 1946 by Christian Dior. The prints were created using the metallic stencil technique heightened in colors and some highlighted in gold or palladium. The adventure began in 1912 when Lucien Vogel man of society and fashion - he had already participated in the magazine Femina - decided to found with his wife Cosette de Brunhoff sister of Jean father of Babar the Gazette du bon ton whose subtitle was then ""Art modes et frivolités"" ""Art fashion and frivolities"". Georges Charensol reports the editor-in-chief's words: « En 1910 observe-t-il il n'existait aucun journal de mode véritablement artistique et représentatif de l'esprit de son époque. Je songeais donc à faire un magazine de luxe avec des artistes véritablement modernes . J'étais certain du succès car pour la mode aucun pays ne peut rivaliser avec la France. » ""In 1910 he observed there was no truly artistic fashion magazine representative of the spirit of its time. I was therefore thinking of creating a luxury magazine with truly modern artists . I was certain of success because in fashion no country can rival France."" ""Un grand éditeur d'art. Lucien Vogel"" in Les Nouvelles littéraires n°133 May 1925. The magazine's success was immediate not only in France but also in the United States and South America. Originally Vogel brought together a group of seven artists: André-Édouard Marty and Pierre Brissaud followed by Georges Lepape and Dammicourt; and finally his friends from the École des beaux-arts such as George Barbier Bernard Boutet de Monvel or Charles Martin. Other talents quickly joined the team: Guy Arnoux Léon Bakst Benito Boutet de Monvel Umberto Brunelleschi Chas Laborde Jean-Gabriel Domergue Raoul Dufy Édouard Halouze Alexandre Iacovleff Jean Émile Laboureur Charles Loupot Charles Martin Maggie Salcedo. These artists mostly unknown when Lucien Vogel called upon them would later become emblematic and sought-after artistic figures. These same illustrators created the drawings for the Gazette's advertisements. The plates highlighted and sublimated the dresses of seven creators of the period: Lanvin Doeuillet Paquin Poiret Worth Vionnet and Doucet. The couturiers provided exclusive models for each issue. Nevertheless some of the illustrations featured no actual model but only the illustrator's idea of contemporary fashion. La Gazette du bon ton was a decisive step in fashion history. Combining aesthetic excellence and visual unity it brought together for the first time the great talents from the worlds of arts letters and fashion and imposed through this alchemy a completely new image of woman slender independent and audacious also carried Lucien Vogel éditeur unknown
