This edition contains Les fables in first edition but also the Don Quichotte whose version by Florian appears for the first time and Gonzalve de Cordoue of which this is the first edition. Volume 12 contains the life of Florian and several unpublished pieces including Guillaume Tell. Illustration: apart from the 24 figures by Barbier and Lefèvre present in the Don Quichotte this copy is complete with the 84 figures rarely found assembled with these editions in frames by Monsiau Queverdo on heavy paper including a portrait of Cervantes and of Florian also in ornate frames. Total of 108 figures. Contemporary full glazed and flamed blonde calf binding. Smooth spine decorated with 2 compartments with grotesque diamonds 2 stamps and roulettes separating the various compartments. Morocco title-label and volume labels in tawny. Spines uniformly faded. Crack to upper joint of volume 10 some light surface wear on several boards several corners. One gathering loose in volume 1 in volume 3 several in volume 6 one in volumes 9 10 11. In volume 1 trace of angular dampstain on the plates of Galatée and on the text erratically and resuming from p. 98 to 114. Volume 2 trace of dampstain at edge of margins of some leaves. Volume 7 trace of dampstain in upper margin of the first plate and on the leaves fainter up to page 30. One perforation at tail of volume 9. Miss Miles writes in a dark green leather journal style book which measures 4" by 6". The actual first entry is dated Sunday July 29th 1866 and the writing ends August 7th. It appears they are in England in the first entries and then later dates mention the Alps. It also appears she was traveling with her companion Nellie. Jeanie is a very spunky bright young woman as is evidenced in her 22 pages wherein she details her day to day activities and with great personality and observational skills. On another 20 pages she wrote poetry and mostly of a humorous and ribald nature. Little wear on the cover pages very nice. This journal called anecdotal is composed of recollections from numerous conversations with Henriette Campan Napoleon frequently appears and unpublished correspondence with her son. In her book on the education of young girls the treatise is followed by several exemplary theatrical pieces modeled on those of Madame de Genlis. Half red Russia leather binding with long grain. Smooth spine decorated with 3 fleurons thick fillets and a roulette at tail. Red paper boards with long grain. Traces of rubbing. Skinning along the lower joint of volume 1. 10 corners slightly bumped. Scattered foxing. Handsome set. Appointed lady-in-waiting to Queen Marie-Antoinette after having been reader to the daughters of Louis XV Jeanne-Louise-Henriette Campan passed into posterity for her Memoirs which remain historical testimony on the court in the time of Louis XVI. Close to the queen her confidante she allows us to penetrate in a singular manner into her intimacy notably regarding the famous affair of the queen's necklace. She remained at Versailles for more than two decades. Narrowly escaping the Terror during the French Revolution she founded in 1794 an institution for young girls that would become famous in Saint-Germain-en-Laye where the daughters of high nobility would pass through. In 1807 Napoleon placed her by imperial decree at the head of the educational establishment of the Legion of Honor at Ecouen where she devoted herself to training future teachers with the wish to make Ecouen a university for women. The plates are numbered and were produced by the heliotype or collotype process which produces both beautiful and extremely detailed images. All but one of the photographs were taken by M. Gravot the other by A. Moraine. Each caption describes the piece of furniture including dimensions and gives its location at the time in many cases in personal collections including those of Albert Thibaudet of Tournus. Includes wardrobes dressers buffets clocks cradles spinning wheels chairs tables pottery various Louis XIII Louis XIV and Louis XV pieces as well as room arrangements. In Very Good Condition: cloth is bright; just starting to separate at head of back joint; scrape along lower edge of front section of portfolio; ties are intact; foxing along fore-edge of plate 40; otherwise text and plates are clean and bright.
