History of Calvinism in France but considered as a heresy and making an apology for the action of Louis XIV and the revocation of the Edict of Nantes enacted one year earlier in 1685. The work tells the history of the movement in France under the different kings from Henri II to Louis XIV and the various policies and events of the kingdom. The author had already faced the wrath of Protestants in his first work so he warns in the preface against the perfidy of their accusations. Interior fresh. Pierre Sutor pseudonym of Pierre Couturier was a French theologian doctor at the Sorbonne then Carthusian. In this work on the Carthusians the author refutes some detractors of monastic life particularly that of the Carthusians. In the first book he makes an apology for his order; in the second he discusses the occupations of the Carthusians and the excellence of their spiritual exercises and devotes a chapter to the writers of this order. The French army claiming that he had escaped some personalities including Pierre Vidal-Naquet protested and denounced his martyrdom after he was certainly tortured by the French army General Aussaresses acknowledging much later having given the order to kill Maurice Audin.
