<p>Originally published in English in England of all places in the 1800s this digest-sized American paperback version tells of numerology palm reading and other forms of prediction and character divination and is in pretty decent shape. It's in its original binding and has minimal nicks and one small scotch tape repair. It is not dirty or faded much neither are the corners bumped to any great degree. This is a very rare copy indeed difficult to chart and rarer still to be in collector-worthy condition. Ottenheimers at the time did many joke books for vaudeville professionals and others another exceptional aspect of Napolean's Lucky Dream book.</p><p>Photo on request.</p> I.&M. Ottenheimer paperback

1941 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT AND PHOTGRAPHIC RELIC OF GERMANY'S INVASION OF GREECE DURING WORLD WAR II - ORIGINAL ONE OF A KIND PHOTOS TAKEN BY A GERMAN OFFICER
GREECE. Good. 1941. Hardcover. On offer is a super original significant manuscript and photographic relic of the German invasion and occupation of Greece during World War II. Dated January 17th 1941 through the invasion date of April 10th to the last handwritten date being April 19th 1941 at picture #86 then there another 77 pictures in sequence though undated Uffz. Unteroffizier A. Konig apparently a German lieutenant using a Greek accounting book created a photo journal and report for German Command with photographs and handwritten notes detailing with names places some anecdotes and dates of the German march from Hungary to Greece. The diary begins with photograph #1 in Hungary the troop III/A.R.220 Third Division Artillery Regiment 220 to Romania on to Greece and eventually Salonika. Tucked into the book is a double sided tally sheet detailing which of the 163 numbered photographs has been enlarged to 6 x 9 inches those photos cropped and the number of copies made of each photo which in many cases numbered in the dozen to twenty or so. According to Webber p.126 this work by the head of the Merrymount Press "is not likely to be superseded as a standard authority on typography." Hart 25 says: "These volumes are without doubt the result of the most scholarly research that has been done in the history of the development of printing and the numerous illustrations have been carefully selected." In his article in THE PRIVATE LIBRARY Summer 1989 Robert Jones of the Glad Hand Press wrote "If I were King I would decree that no personal printing would be permitted until an applicant had studied the following volumes." He then lists this as one of five books that are "all the guidelines one will ever need." Uniformly bound in the original maroon cloth stamped in gold on the spine. Oversize Hardcover heavy. This Golden Globe-nominated film television and stage actor is best remembered as Dan Tanna in the t.v. crime drama "Vega$" 1978-81 and also for "Spenser: For Hire" 1985-88; he died at age 55 from cancer. An unusually early and bold and handsome "Best Wishes / Robert Urich" in black ballpoint on a special heavy stock 5" X 3" card n.p. which he dates 30 June 1976. Fine. With original envelope. Accompanied by a superb 9" X 7" black and white glossy photograph a 1978 half-length publicity portrait of Urich in front of a lit up "VEGA$" sign for the ABC premiere of that series. An exceptionally early pre-Dan Tanna example. unknown

As a naval commander this physician was severely injured in 1904 when a turret exploded abour the "Missouri" in which many others were killed and wounded -- but for the next 36 hours he tended the injured until collapsing himself with a punctured lung; he also served as one of Theodore Roosevelt's personal physicians and was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for services rendered in the Spanish-American War. Partly-printed ADS 1p 7½" X 3" Washington DC 1903 October 3. Near fine. Check drawn on The Riggs National Bank filled out entirely in Urie's hand to the Chevy Chase Club for $48.50. Thomas Thomas was the first Cambridge University printer appointed in 1583 and he printed 14 titles before his death in 1588. Henry VIII had granted the University a Letters Patent in 1534 but the London Stationers Company resisted for nearly fifty years the publishing of books despite the Royal grant. Cambridge is the worlds oldest publishing house in the wordl and the has the worlds oldest University Press. ORIGINAL FULL CALF with raised bands. Complete copy but usual staining wear and aging. Binding broken at page 282. Beautifully printed in a single column and with wood-cut initials fo chapter headings. Occasional worming but generally a worn and damp-stained copy of a rare item. 1936 ORIGINAL DESIGN AND DRAFT STUDY OF A MAJOR US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS RESERVOIR AND DAM PROJECT
WASHINGTON DC. Very Good. 1936. On offer is the original design study for a major dam project in the United States. The study is comprised of 2 documents. The main document is 10 inches by 8 inches contains 123 pages and is in excellent condition. The second document is a technical specifications document that contains 37 pages. It too is in excellent condition. The Savage River Reservoir is a 360 acre storage reservoir in northwest Maryland. It was completed in 1952 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers which also currently maintains it. The reservoir was formed by the Savage Dam which impounds the Savage River. The reservoir is used for flood control and municipal drinking. The Savage River Dam is a rock-fill earthen dam 184 feet high 1050 feet long and drains an area of 105 square miles. The dam was modified in 1980 and is owned by the Upper Potomac River Commission. The Savage River is a major wilderness recreation area and the river has been the site of U.S. Olympic trials for canoeing and international canoeing slalom championships. It is reputed to be one of the best wild trout streams in the mid-Atlantic United States. The reservoir is a major supplier of fresh water to Washington DC. Although completed in 1952 planning had begun in the 1930's. Construction began in 1939 but was suspended in 1942 due to U.S. entry into WWII. Construction resumed in 1946. The Savage River Dam Analysis of Design document is dated 1937. This 123 page document is the end result of several years of study and then the application process for funding. The project was initiated by the Upper Potomac River Commission and undertaken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering. It was funded by a grant from the Works Progress Administration WPA. The WPA was Franklin Roosevelt's grand scheme to help deal with the massive unemployment stemming from the Great Depression. It was the largest and most ambitious American New Deal agency employing millions of people to carry out public works projects including the construction of public buildings and roads. The Savage River Dam Analysis of Design contains general descriptions design criteria and illustrations technical specifications drawing maps and charts. There are numerous detailed fold-out engineering drawings bearing the U.S. Engineer Office stamp and signatures of the 3 signing engineers - Tippietts Schmitt and Luplow. Since its construction there has been subsequent work over the decades. Although there may be some copies of the model studies for this major dam project this appears to be the original design document. The second document is a technical memorandum entitled Spillway For Savage River Dam - Hydraulic Model Investigation. It is dated 1954. The purpose of this memorandum was to verify the data regarding flow rates and impacts as a result of additional flood control alterations having been made. The document contains 37 pages of charts diagrams and analysis. A researcher looking at the underlying studies that led to the decision to build this important dam would find this study to be a goldmine of information. Environmentalists could see the state of conservation thinking at the time. The area is under active threat today 2018 from creeping urban spread and natural gas drilling. Japan. Kingyokudo & co. Varnished mahogany frame. The print has a tiny adhesive on a margin connecting it to the mount. A polystyrene plate and a Japanese wood panel on the back. Small pivoting rivets allow quick access to the engraving. A removable fabric cord allows hanging the engraving. The whole is housed in a cardboard box. Print on rice or mulberry paper. One vertical fold. Frame dimensions: 35x50cm. Print: 23.5x35cm. Very handsome print with refined staging and colors. Under a flowering cherry tree a lord and his squire observe three women at the water's edge waving fans; they all carry swords. The kimono fabrics are particularly complex and very different. Utagawa Kunisada is one of the most famous and popular artists of the 19th century and also one of the most prolific; he dominated the print market for several decades. unknown
