Geoffrey Bles London 1964. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Poor. Illustrator: E. Ellen Buxton. 405 g.; VI 7-96 pages introduction by granddaughter genealogical table. Pale tan coloured endpapers. Colour illustrated frontispiece by an author as are all the black-and-white illustrations within the text. Green coloured boards with gilt embossed titles to the front panel and backstrip. Pink coloured tint to the top text block edge. Rubbing and discolouration to the backstrip and bumping and rubbing to the corners. The front board is quite bowed. discolouration to the book edges and light browning and faint foxing to the text block edges. Faint erasure mark to the top right-hand corner of the free front end paper. Light age toning to the internal text but there is quite noticeable foxing to the last few pages of the book at the top edge. Colour illustrated dustwrapper same illustration as for frontispiece with brown background and black titles to the front panel and backstrip. Rubbing and slight chipping to the dustwrapper corners. The major damage to the dustwrapper has been to the rear panel. There are two tears that run the full depth of the dustwrapper starting at the top and arcing into the body of the dustwrapper then ending at the lower dustwrapper edge. The dustwrapper panel itself is in three component parts with large amounts of scuffing rubbing and loss of the background colour where the tears are stop there smaller tears to the front dustwrapper edges and foxing is visible and very noticeable to the verso of the dustwrapper. The dustwrapper is now protected in library sleeving. The diaries of the author who kept numerous diaries throughout her life. This book celebrates her family's life between the years 1864 to 1866. She was one of 12 children of Thomas and Rachel Buxton and these diaries celebrates the every day o a Victorian family. Size: Oblong 8vo - 7�" - 9�" tall but wider. Washington: Printed by A. and G. Way 1803. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Fair. Octavo. Variously paginated. Bound volume containing the reports of the first 15 councils dating from 1803 to 1818. Bound in early full sheep. The leather binding is quite worn and dry and is scuffed and abraded. The hinges are sturdy. Lacks the top leather label on the spine; the bottom label reads "Vol. I / From the / 1st to 15th Council / Inclusive." Early owner's name at the headcap of the spine is illegible and no names within. The binding is designs with rules of alternating oval and diamond designs in blind about the edges. There is some pest damage to the outside edges of the text block towards the rear of the book not affecting the text. Text is toned and foxed with some damping at the front and rear. Two blank flyleaves at the front an numerous blank pages at the rear. Most of the reports have their own title pages. The reports that do not have separate title pages are those for: 8 1810; 12 1815; 14 1817; and 15 1818. In the 6th report 1808 there is insect damage for the leaves of pages 7-8 and 9-10 with significant loss of lettering on the fore edge of pages 7-8. Rare. 1-8 4 9-49 i-ii ix 1-2; 1-32; 1-47; 1-44; 1-46; 20 1; 42; 15 1; 56 iii; 56; 36; 88; 69; 40; 45 pages with 10 blank flyleaves at the rear. The final few flyleaves of torn and stained. This American poet published his first collection "An Ode to Harvard and Other Poems" in 1907 acting as editor at "McClure's Magazine" briefly and taking part in the famed Spectra literary hoax in 1916; in 1922 he relocated to Santa Fe and became a mainstay of the rich literary scene there publishing poetry collections until 1960. Inoffensive mounting traces on verso cause tiny �" paper loss at upper right; several small paper losses along original vertical center fold not affecting text. On pale grey pictorial letterhead of Hotel St. Francis in San Francisco the poet pens a brief cryptic but cordial note in thick black ink: "A long while after and in a rattling hurry -- but with appreciative thanks and good wishes!" and signs nicely beneath. An attractive example despite noted flaws. unknown

On his personal letterhead Bynner thanks an admirer for birthday greetings adding "Before leaving Mexico we out our house there in fairly good order so that I hope the next time I am there instead of being with carpenters masons and painters I shall be busy with a manuscript." Boldly signed in black ink. Accompanied by a delightful 7" X 9�" sepia-tone printed photograph a half-length right-facing portrait in bow tie and hat. Published in Volume 7 Number 4 of the literary magazine "The Mentor" 1919 with biographical text on verso. A superb pair. unknown
