Subtitled "Containing Typographical Rules Governing the Publications of the University of Chicago Together With Specimens of Type Used at the University of Chicago Press". The binding is moderately worn but solid square and tight. The first two signatures are a bit loose allowing this book to lay open flat. Top of the text block is stained rusty red. The previous owner has neatly printed his name and the notation "C 123" along the top edges of the front endpapers. The green black and white DJ is heavily chipped worn and torn with some scotch tape remains and soiling along with some penciled notes on the inner flaps. Now protected in mylar it is only included for integrity's sake. A very useful and solid manual of typographical style procedures and instructions. Collectible and useful. "Tenth Revised Edition". The turquoise full cloth binding is exceptionally clean bright solid square and tight. There is one very small spot on the top board to the left of the logo otherwise the binding is sharp and clean. With a sharp Univ. of Chicago logo device of gilt and black centered on the top board; title is in gilt within a black box on the spine. The endpapers are decorated with alphabet type-faces and fonts; four tiny holes from removed staples are present in the upper right corner of the FFendpaper.The top of the text block is stained light red and has some tiny spots. The red black and white DJ with a price of $5.50 is overall clean and bright with a few chips bumps and creases along the edges and at the corners and along the spines edges top and bottom. Now protected in mylar it remains quite presentable with only a hint of toning along the top edges. A very useful and solid manual of typographical style procedures and instructions. A Pair of Victorian Die-cut Pop-up Cards
S.l.: s.n. 1890. Very Good. A pair of Victorian die-cut pop-up cards with similar design. One has the message "To my Valentine" and the other "With best Wishes. The messages are on the lower part of the card within an embossed floral border; when the cards are open the messages are not visible. They each are composed of many embossed die-cut blue flowers. When open a pink tissue-paper flower opens in the middle. The Valentine card has a windmill outlined with flowers. The Best Wishes card had two white doves within a mass of blue and pink flowers. There is no publication information. It's possible that these were hand-made or designs for cards to be commercially produced given the plain backing section on each card. In Very Good Condition: the Valentine's card has 2 small archival repairs; minor loss at upper edge of flowers on the Best Wishes card; clean. <br/><br/> s.n. unknown

A screen of the four seasons mountains and water or Living live through the four seasons
1860. Toshin. Handscroll. An elegant makimono-e painting in sumi ink and color wash on paper by 83-year-old artist Toshin. Handscrolls are meant to be viewed right to left in sections traveling arms-length by arms-length through the continuous landscape. This painting takes the viewer through each of the four seasons in a mountainous landscape dotted with buildings and tiny figures and crossed by roads and rivers. It opens with a green spring bustling with travelers. Summer is blown in with a driving hail storm before gentling into autumn where a full moon glows overhead. The journey ends in winter with a pristine snowscape. Calligraphic text at the beginning and end of the scroll give the title artist and year and explains that the scroll is "after a painting by Hojo Bokkei copied by Kakusenro Sesson." A few of the seams in the paper are beginning to come unglued otherwise this lovely painting is in near fine condition. Housed in a wooden box chipped at one corner. Measures 10 3/4 in. tall by approx. 27 1/2 feet; 273x8407mm. unknown
