This British poet father of actor Daniel Day-Lewis penned many verse collections over several decades ranging from his first book "Transitional Poem" 1929 to "A Time to Dance and Other Poems" 1935 "Short Is the Time" 1945 "Pegasus and Other Poems" 1957 "The Gate and Other Poems" 1962 and "The Whispering Root and Other Poems" 1970 meanwhile writing a handful of pseudonymous mystery novels; in 1968 he succeeded John Masefield as Poet Laureate. Bold signature on a 5" X 4" slip n.p. n.y. Near fine. Apparently a portion of a book's half-title page since his name appears in print at upper left. Day-Lewis never hyphenated his last name when signing and once noted "As a writer I do not use the hyphen in my surname - a piece of inverted snobbery which has produced rather mixed results." unknown

"Face the Music" Promotional Folder for Spring 2009 Concerts
Daytona Beach: DBIF 2009 A direct-mail leaflet announcing more than 20 cultural events in the Daytona Beach area including six concerts by the London Symphony Orchestra during the period of April 16 to May 2 2009. Within the folder is a smaller ticket-order form. Lightly rippled. The marketing theme "Face the Music" became ironic because this festival turned out to be the LSO's last biannual visit to Daytona Beach a tradition that began in 1985. The visits were heavily subsidized by the Daytona Beach News-Journal over the years but a federal judge halted the funding after Cox Newspapers co-owner of the newspaper successfully sued Herbert M. "Tippen" Davidson Jr. publisher and majority owner for "wasting" the newspaper's profits on arts projects. Inside panels give details of the 77th annual banquet of the Daytona Beach/Halifax Area Chamber of Commerce Jan. 29 1997 which featured entertainers from the Legends in Concert Show which had just opened a Daytona Beach branch theater that year. It closed after about a year. An unusual souvenir of the Las Vegas show culture reaching into a far corner of ordinary America. Legends concert series lasted one season in Daytona and then folded. Daytona Beach Florida: Daytona Beach News-Journal 2006 47 pp. on glossy stock. A full-color special section of the Daytona Beach News-Journal to mark the opening of The News-Journal Center a $29 million performing arts building in July 2006. Light wear no markings. Many color photos plus advertisements by Daytona's major companies and institutions. The publication marked the zenith of the civic influence and power of the Davidson family former owners of the News-Journal. The glitzy art complex conceived by Tippen Davidson the newspaper's chief executive triggered a legal battle with Cox Newspapers the newspaper's minority shareholder. Cox sued the Davidsons for corporate waste eventually succeeding in ending the newspaper's subsidy of the complex and its main tenant the Seaside Music Theater. As the lawsuit dragged on Cox gained control of the newspaper Tippen Davidson died and Cox booted the rest of the family and their lawyer from the paper's management. The financially ruined arts center was transferred to Daytona State College for a token payment and operates currently as the Mike Curb College of Music Arts and Sciences. The Seaside troupe went out of business and about 300 newspaper workers lost their jobs as Cox imposed austerity to boost profits. Size: 4to -- 10.75 in High Daytona Beach News-Journal paperback

The Dandy Book 1957 front board bears a Korky the Cat comic strip of four fishermen returning with the catch on a train and relieved of their catch by Korky the Cat. The Dandy Book 1957 back board features a Desperate Dan comic strip. The Dandy Book 1957 binding is in Good condition with wear to the spine surface loss to the boards edge and corner knocks and small marks to the top edge of the front board. However the colours to the comic strips are still very bright and the boards are structurally sound with wear being consistent of a children�s book of this age. There are 125 numbered pages but lacks the front free endpaper. The Title Page has a wonderful illustration of Korky the Cat and the Contents Page is divided into Picture Stories Stories and Comics. Some pages have light to medium spotting that are confined largely to the margins pages 61 to 66 inclusive are joined together and are loosely inserted and some page have creases and very occasional small closed tears with no paper loss. <br/><br/>ANN006 D.C.
