Title label is chipped with small area of loss no lettering affected gilt still mostly intact on bands. American sculptor noted for her portrait busts. Signed First Day Cover 6�" X 3�" cancelled in New Orleans Louisiana on 1965 January 8 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Single 5-cent "Battle of New Orleans" stamp at upper right. At lower left in black fountain pen Gregory signs large and handsome adding "sc" for "sculptor" after her name. This attractive stamp includes an image of both the recto and verso of a medallion sculpted by Gregory. Accompanied by an ANS 2pp heavy stock 7�" X 3 3/4" engraved correspondence card New Orleans LA 1970 May 22. Addressed to Paul Johnston. Nice content to an admirer: "It was most interesting to hear from you about 'my stamp.' The Medallic Art Co who struck the Sesquicentennial of the Battle of New Orleans medal told me it was the 1st time a medal was used on a US stamp. A splendid collection of the Battle material has just been opened to the public." Small portion of original transmittal envelope also present. A fine and unusual pair. unknown
