Grandcamp-les-Bains Grandcamp-Maisy s. d. ca 1914-1920 13.50 x 21 cm une page sur un feuillet remplié Autograph letter signed addressed to a correspondent whom we have not been able to identify. Written from the Grand Hôtel de Grandcamp-les-Bains Calvados in blue ink on a folded sheet of white paper. A transverse fold inherent to the posting of the letter and four small perforations affecting the text but not impeding its reading. The mention of Grandcamp-les-Bains - where Aragon seems to have been only once during the summer of his seventeenth year - and the signature - of an early form - lead us to think that the letter could have been written in the summer of 1914. Philippe Forest in his biography of Aragon confirms that it was indeed at Grandcamp-les-Bains where his family had rented fifty rooms in a large seaside hotel to accommodate family and friends that the future poet learned the news of mobilization. The handwriting less rounded than on manuscripts prior to the 1920s however seems to us later and we are therefore not in a position to confirm the date of 1914. unknown

According to the collation the second part lacks a half-title or title for the second and third letters. However we believe that the same title was used for these different parts and that it was placed only at the head of the first letter of the second part. The collections sold did not always contain all the parts with different pagination found in this copy. For example the copy in the Bibliothèque nationale de France does not have these 2 parts second letter and third letter of the second part; it contains only the last two letters attached to the first two without the second part. First letter on the Comédie française. Second letter on the opera. Second part on the Comédie italienne three letters. Two final letters on the fairs of S. Germain and S. Laurent. The author presents the contemporary situation of spectacles in Paris by examining the Comédie française the opera for which the author lists recent performances musicians and composers the Comédie italienne and the spectacles of the fairs. Lithograph inspired by a poem by Léon Dierx. Magnificent French monthly publication issued between May 1897 and April 1899 L'Estampe moderne consisted of original chromolithographs which unlike other periodicals such as Les Maîtres de l'Affiche and as stipulated on the tissue guards were created specially by each artist for the periodical. Thus 100 prints appeared in total covering the major artistic movements of the late 19th century: Symbolism Art Nouveau Pre-Raphaelites Orientalists and Belle Epoque. Each issue of four prints was printed in 2000 copies sold for 3.50F and 100 on Japan paper offered at 10F. Henri Piazza also planned a confidential deluxe printing: 50 copies on Japan paper with large margins and 50 in black on China paper at the considerable price of 30F. This print of handsome format is superbly printed on one of the most prestigious papers: China. Piazza decided to remove the poster from its advertising purpose and elevate it to the rank of a complete work of art on the same level as the deluxe illustrated book. First illustrated and collected edition with 6 figures and 2 title vignettes; the vignettes are signed Eisen and engraved by Legrand the figures are before letters and are undoubtedly by the same. The work is listed by Cohen Livres à gravures du XVIIIe under Sandisson. Contemporary marbled full brown calf bindings. Decorated smooth spines. Red morocco title and volume labels. Restorations to headcaps and corners gilt retouched. Worming on the upper board of volume II. Scattered foxing. Brown stain in upper margin on the first 50 leaves. Brown stain in margin on 3 leaves in volume II. Overall good copy. Witty and parodic oriental novel. It recounts the journey and adventures of a pious Muslim Abdalla sent by his master the sultan of the Indies in search of water that provides eternal youth. This narrative is also a documentary on the Orient in which the abbé implements the knowledge that Western travelers brought back from their various journeys to India and Indonesia it is also the vision that the Western clergy had of Muslims and the Orient. It offers a collection of marvelous tales that borrow their elements from both East and West. Like the Thousand and One Nights it is filled with multiple stories and tales mixing genies and magic. The engravings illustrate the different stages of the journey: Tharandt Nuremberg Munich Füssen Grisons. Contemporary binding in half emerald green shagreen spine in five false compartments decorated with dentelles and gilt fleurons green paper plates caillouté marbled endpapers comb-patterned edges. Open joints at the foot of the upper board. This manuscript which is full of details about life at the time in these countries is the work of Jules Malignon professor of French at the Blochmann Institute in Dresden and was produced on the occasion of a trip whose participants are listed at the beginning of the volume. The engineer and entrepreneur Rudolf Sigismond Blochmann founder of the Dresden institute founded in 1828 and bearing his name was one of the pioneers of gas lighting in Germany. unknown

Its quality of ink absorption and its affinity with colors also make it the ideal support for these very fine lithographs. The interest of French collectors in artistic posters intensified at the beginning of the 1890s. Octave Uzanne to describe this fever invented the term ""postomania."" The poster originally popular and posted in the streets of the capital then became an art object and its ephemeral medium became precious and destined for preservation. Piazza decided to remove the poster from its advertising vocation and elevate it to the rank of a complete work of art on the same level as the luxury illustrated book. Folding marks from mailing. An engaging letter in which Jules Romains corresponds with the painter Dignimont about the forthcoming illustrated edition of his sweeping novel cycle Hommes de bonne volonté: ""J'ai beaucoup pensé cette fois-ci encore aux belles compositions que vous nous avez montrées samedi. Je continue à trouver tout cela très important."" Romains' remarks are revealing as they highlight the divergence between how he envisioned his characters and how his friend interpreted them: ""Est-ce que nos deux jeunes gens ne font pas encore un peu trop rupin. . Je verrais de Marquis de St Papoul avec un visage plus maigre et plus allongé un peu donquichottesque."" He concludes with an apology for his demands: ""Hélas ! Je suis embêtant. Mais j'aime tellement vos compositions que je me permets d'y rêver comme si je les avais faites moi-même."" The illustrated edition would be published in 1954 by Flammarion marking the sole collaboration between the Académie Française member and the Montmartre painter. unknown
