London: printed and sold by J. Roberts 1719. First edition small 8vo pp. 2 vi viii 128; contemporary full red goat with an all-over "cottage-roof" design enclosing a gilt coronet central and the initials "A. F." unlettered spine elaborately decorated in gilt in 6 compartments a.e.g.; edges rubbed and minor wear at the ends of the joints. A penciled note on the flyleaf identifies the coronet and initials on the covers as those of Augustus Frederick Duke of Sussex one of the sons of George III b. 1773. We have not been able to confirm this. Nonetheless this is a rare devotional book dedicated to Princess Anne the eldest daughter of George II; she was ten when the book appeared. He Joined The Friends Ambulance Unit In 1914 And Later Became A Medical Officer In The Royal Army Medical Corps. Rees Was Placed In Charge Of A Motor Ambulance Unit In Mesopotamia Until 1919. Hugh Crichton-Miller Invited Rees To Work With Him At A Private Psychiatric Nursing Home Bowden House Harrow On The Hill. Rees Married Mary Isobel Hemingway 1887 -19541. Their Marriage Occurred Shortly After Rees And Crichton-Miller Created The Tavistock Square Clinic For Functional Nervous Disorders A Voluntary Hospital Which Opened In 1920. The Clinic Specialized In The New 'Dynamic Psychologies' Of Sigmund Freud And His Followers And In Particular The Object Relations Theory Of Ronald Fairbairn And Others. As Well As Educating Others At The Clinic Rees Took The Dph In 1920 And Mrcp In 1936. Rees Was One Of The Key Figures At The Original Tavistock Clinic And Became Its Medical Director From 1933. He Began To Make Plans To Establish An Institute Of Medical Psychology With Beds And More Opportunities To Train People In Psychiatric Methods And Bought A Site In Bloomsbury To Build It But His Plans Were Halted By The Outbreak Of The Second World War. Rees Was Appointed Consulting Psychiatrist To The British Army During The Second World War. According To Eric Trist In 1941 A Group Of Psychiatrists At The Tavistock Clinic Were Asked To Join The Directorate Of Army Psychiatry And Did So As A Group. During The War Rees Oversaw His Colleagues' Experiments With Group Psychotherapy 'Therapeutic Communities' Morale Rehabilitation And Selection Tests. The Work Which Occupied Most Of Rees Time During The War Was The Case Of Rudolf Hess. Together With Henry Dicks A Fellow Member Of The Tavistock Clinic Group Rees Was Charged With The Care Of Hitler's Deputy At The Secret Prison Locations Where He Was Held Following His Capture After Landing In Scotland. Over The Four-Year Period From June 1941 To Hess' Appearance At The Nuremberg Trial In 1945 Rees Was A Member Of The Three-Man British Panel With Churchill's Personal Physician Lord Moran And Eminent Neurologist Dr George Riddoch Which Assessed Hess's Capability To Stand Trial For War Crimes. He Received Awards Including The Thomas Salmon Memorial Lectureship Of The New York Academy Of Medicine In 1944 The William Withering Lectureship At The University Of Birmingham In 1945 And Shared The First New Lasker Award With Brock Chisholm In 1945. After The War The Tavistock Clinic Underwent Considerable Changes In Which Rees Played A Key Role. Rees' Plans For An Institute Of Medical Psychology Were Never Realized; Instead The Group Went On To Found The Tavistock Institute With Funding From The Rockefeller Foundation. Rees Left Shortly Afterwards In 1947.After Leaving The Tavistock Rees' First Role Was As The Chief Organizer Of The 1948 International Congress For Mental Health Held In London. At This Congress The World Federation For Mental Health Was Founded And Rees Was Elected As The First President. This Organization Is Now A Non-Governmental Organization With Formal Consultative Status At The United Nations. Rees Retired From His Post In 1962 Though He Continued To Act As A Consultant. As Usual No Finding That Political Leaders And Administrators Would Be Sociopathic Or Psycopathic For Invading Other Lawful Countries Or Attempting To Exterminate Elements Of Their Populations. <br/> <br/> W. Within Months Of Receiving His Doctorate From Harvard Swanton Began Working For The Bureau Of American Ethnology Of The Smithsonian Institution In Washington Dc At Which He Continued For The Duration Of His Career Spanning More Than 40 Years. Swanton First Did Fieldwork In The Northwest. In His Early Career He Worked Mostly With The Tlingit And Haida. He Produced Two Extensive Compilations Of Haida Stories And Myths And Transcribed Many Of Them Into Haida. Another Major Study Area Was Of The Muskogean-Speaking Peoples In Texas Louisiana And Oklahoma. Swanton Published Extensively On The Creek People Chickasaw And Choctaw. He Also Documented Analyses About Many Other Less Well-Known Groups Such As The Biloxi Ofo And Tunica The Last Of Which Supplemented Earlier Work By Albert Samuel Gatschet. He Worked With Natchez Speaker Watt Sam And Argued In Favor Of Including The Natchez Language With The Muskogean Language Group. Swanton Wrote Works Including Partial Dictionaries Studies Of Linguistic Relationships Collections Of Native Stories And Studies Of Social Organization. He Worked With Earnest Gouge A Creek Who Recorded A Large Number Of Traditional Stories At Swanton's Request. These Materials Were Never Published By Swanton.They Have Recently Been Published Online As Creek Folktales By Earnest Gouge. Swanton Also Worked With The Caddo And Published Briefly On The Quipu System Of The Inca. Swanton Was One Of The Founding Members Of The Swedenborg Scientific Association In 1898. He Was President Of The American Anthropological Association In 1932. He Also Served As Editor Of The American Anthropological Association's Flagship Journal American Anthropologist In 1911 And From 1921 To 1923. Swanton Was Also A Member Of The American Folklore Society Serving As Its President In 1909. Also Per Wikipedia The Author Calvin Smith Brown Iii 1866- After His Graduation From Vanderbilt Studied At The Universities Of Paris And Leipzig 1894-1895 And Then Returned To Pursue A Ph.D. In Comparative Literature At The University Of Colorado. Brown Assumed The Post Of Assistant Professor Of Romance Languages At The University Of Mississippi Where He Remained For The Rest Of His Academic Life. He Taught German French And Italian And Eventually Became The Chair Of The Department Of Modern Languages. While Brown'S Professional Duties Were In Modern Languages He Continued To Pursue His Interests In The Sciences Publishing A Monograph On The Lignite Of Mississippi In 1907 As Well As Essays On The "Botany Of Tishomingo State Park" On "Landscaping With Native Plants" And On The Petrified Forest Of Mississippi. Mississippi Initiated A Geological Survey Of The State In The Early Twentieth-Century And Brown Assumed The Title Of "Archaeologist" For The Project. Brown Began Photographing Mound Sites As Early As 1912 And For The Next Fourteen Years He Amassed An Impressive Collection Of Photographs And Artifacts While Documenting His Work With Multiple Records. The End Result Of Brown'S Labors Was His Book The Archaeology Of Mississippi 1926 Which Is Now Recognized As One Of The Pioneering Works Of Its Kind. <br/> <br/> Mississippi Geological Survey hardcover

Medway Was In Derelict Condition And They Restored The Home And The Grounds Over Many Years. It Eventually Became A Successful Timber Operation. When World War Ii Began Both Sidney And Gertrude Legendre Served Their Country. Sidney Joined The U.S. Navy And Was Stationed In Hawaii. Gertrude Worked In Washington And Later London For The Office Of Strategic Services Oss. She Was Not A Spy But A Clerk Managing The Cable Desk. In London She Served Under David K.E. Bruce And Often Entertained The Top Brass At Her Townhouse Despite The Danger Of German Buzz-Bombs. In September 1944 The Agency Transferred Her To Paris Giving Her A Wac Uniform And Paperwork Identifying Her As A Second Lieutenant. In Late September 1944 She Became The First American Woman In Uniform Captured In Germany10 When On An Unauthorized Visit To The Front Near Luxembourg She Found Herself Pinned Down By German Sniper Fire Along With Two Oss Officers And Their Driver. Held As A Prisoner Of War For Six Months She Narrowly Escaped On A Train To Switzerland. As The Train Stopped Just Short Of The Border She Dashed From The Train While A German Guard Shouted Orders For Her To Halt Or Be Shot. She Continued And Secured Her Freedom. In Her Later Years Gertrude Established The Medway Environmental Trust For Educational Purposes And To Ensure That Her Beloved Home Medway Would Forever Be Managed As A Nature Preserve.
