1860 ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN 44 PAGE ACCOUNT OF THE MURDER OF THE MOORE FAMILY AND THE CAPTURE OF MARY BY THE INDIANS OF TAZEWELL VIRGINIA DIFFERING FROM THE 'CAPTIVES OF ABB'S VALLEY' AS TOLD BY REVEREND JAMES MOORE BROWN
ABB'S VALLEY TAZEWELL COUNTY VIRGINIA 1860. On offer is a fascinating significant original 44 page manuscript relic of Western Virginia Americana and the early troubled times between pioneers and Indians. Enclosed within an envelope inscribed: "The Captives of Abb's Valley" not the account as written by "Rev. James Moore Brown". Tad Humphreys for with" is an 1860s previous holders of the article date the item 1830 to 1860 and we holdd with the latter handwritten account of some of the events in the Indian War in Tazewell County Virginia. The 6½ x 3¾ inch pages appears to have been removed from a booklet the text block held barely by string and it also appears incomplete starting mid sentence but the narrative is early so we suggest the cover sheet forming the first page and last page are lost some loose pages. There is also some loss to the front page and the second as the lower right corner is torn away and a loss of a few words. Some chipping and loss too but just a bit. This will not deter historians and researchers from find this retelling of significance as it differs from an account written in 1854 as mentioned previously by the Reverend Brown. This retelling is filled with details and is closely written at times minutely. The story revolves around the Moore family massacre the subsequent kidnapping of the Mary Moore and her two companions by Indians in Tazewell County Virginia in the 1780s and their later escape and even recounts how the young woman was sold to a white man named Stobwell and much more. Some of the account is so intimate we can only speculate the writer this account was incredibly knowledgeable of the details. Here is a snippet from the very start: '
.Indians who surrounded it & cut down the door. Providentially however several men had that evening called at Mr. Poag's house & were lodging with him & the Indians finding the house more strongly defended than they expected did not
. The men in the house were well armed but had set their guns all together some of which were double & some single triggered. In the hurry of alarm they all appear to have gotten hold of the wrong guns and though several favourable opportunities were afforded for firing with advantage they were unable to discharge their guns.' Save for the mentioned defects it is very legible in a clear hand the with not a word wasted on describing the specifics of this awful tale and is overall Fair. Fair. 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall. GRANDMA TO SARAH SEYMOUR
1832 UTTERLY CHARMING ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN BOOK OF OBSERVATIONS SAGE ADVICE INSTRUCTION IN DECORUM POETRY AND QUOTATIONS OF FAMED AMERICAN ICONS AND PHILOSOPHERS TO HER TWO YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER
MADISON COUNTY ONEIDA COUNTY CAZENOVIA 1832. On offer is an utterly charming original 19th Century manuscript book handwritten by an adoring grandmother who offers her sage advice to her 2 year old granddaughter Sarah Seymour. While she is not named the author will undoubtedly be named by local historians or researchers. Casual research suggests the girl to be Sarah E. Seymour later Mrs. James Burton of Oneida County New York born in 1828. See the Bio Notes that follow. Grandmother imparts age-old advice to her beloved little one. Part common sense part pious belief and faith another part solidly pure folksy Americana with entries that include affectionate lessons combined with stories poetry and prose quotations from the Bible and invocations of iconic American historical figures like a dying quote from Thomas Jefferson the wisdom of John Adams Dr. Watts Rev. David Brainard Col. Ogden's toast to General Marquis La Fayette Solomon etc. all parts of the important perceptions of life shared through her grandmother's life experiences. The grandmother is an educated literate and practical woman of the 19th Century and we can only hope Sarah had the benefit of seeing her Grandmother to a ripe old age. Here are some snippets: "Dear Sarah my darling granddaughter I am going to write some interesting little extracts that I hope will be pleasing to you. I hope my little girl will by going to school receive much instruction which will make you wise. And King Solomon says wisdom is the principle thing. Read often the eighth chapter of Proverbs there is much wisdom contained in it & you may remember it as a favorite chapter of your dear grand - mama's." Then grandmother writes a couple of poems a story of "Moorland Mary" and continues to address Sarah. "Dear Sarah I cannot bear to have you grow up a tall weed. I want you to appear like a pretty flower. It is observable that the best of flowers in a garden would in time degenerate into tall dry weeds if not cultivated. Remember my dear Sarah to ask as few questions as possible or indeed not any but where there seems to be a necessity for it. Let cheerfulness sweetness pleasantness be always blended in your countenance & air. This is a charm which is highly predominant in winning the love of every body whilst a cloudy morose & overbearing countenance is the reverse ladies preceptor." Then grandmother writes a few lines from the Bible and two little interesting stories; one of a little girl; one of a little boy; which are really subtle life lessons for Sarah. "
Adams & Jefferson died the fourth of July 1826. President Monroe died the 4th of July 1831
the last words of Thomas Jefferson were. 'I resign my soul of my God & my daughter to my country.' "Dear Sarah be affectionate be kind be obedient be diligent be amiable. Take notice my dear Sarah.Dear Sarah you being a little girl will like to read this ceremony" and grandma writes of the Danes and Danish customs of dance and German manners and ladies in England and a few "pretty verses." "I think my dear Sarah you will like to know what I am going to write concerning Dr. Watts that great friend to children." The most poignant and moving of entries to Sarah comes toward the end of this incredible little handwritten book that perhaps took grandmother quite a while to compose perhaps even over a couple of years with poems poetry biblical sayings proverbs life lessons and so much more. This entry is toward the end of this book. "My dear little Sarah I am now writing some lines your Aunt Hyde has written to be put in the Newspaper of the death of Mrs. Hull's little children that you very well knew and that I have seen them here. They were laid together in a little coffin little sisters & they were buried in one grave. Died at Taberg on Thursday evening last Jan. 5th 1832 of the canker-rash. Hariot Harriet Eliza aged four years & 6 months The following Saturday morning Mary Hyde aged two years & 6 months children of Gilbert & Eliza Hull. Their saviour called their spirits quiet their day to join the ransomed on the realms of day. Then check each sigh & wipe each falling tear you wish them out of Heaven to wish them here. Through Jesus's merit may you reach that shore and meet your lovely babes to part no more. This Providence I hope will be profitable to Mary & Sarah Seymour." The Hull children were buried in the Old Taberg Cemetery Oneida County New York in January of 1832. Soft covered handwritten book is in gray wrappers; a bound manuscript book ink blots to covers only with crisp clear and legible writing. HUGH GUION MACDONELL
1870s ORIGINAL SIGNIFICANT MANUSCRIPT JOURNAL AND CATCH-ALL OF THE BRITISH CHARGE D'AFFAIRES FOR ARGENTINA WHO DETAILS THE YELLOW FEVER PLAGUE OF 1871 AND HIS PART IN THE NOTORIOUS VIRGINIUS AFFAIR
BUENOS AYRES AIRES SOUTH AMERICA 1875. On offer here is a fascinating original journal of Hugh Guion Macdonell who was British Charge d'Affaires to the Argentine Republic in the 1870s. The journal while not very long contains significant handwritten personal accounts; the yellow fever plague of 1871 and a notorious major diplomatic incident the 1873 Virginius Affair between the Spanish British and Americans during the 10 years war. In fact the rear cover is a title page from a U.S Dept of State publication regarding the Affair. In all there are a total of 15 pages of narrative and letter copies and six pages of press clippings for the most part regarding the 1871 yellow fever outbreak in the Argentine. Macdonell begins recounting his career: how in 1850 he was quartered at Williamstown Cape of Good Hope in charge of a draft of discharged men when he sustained a wound trying to rescue another man. In 1861 he was sent to Herzegovina and Bosnia to make a report; in 1869 he was appointed secretary of legation in Buenos Ayres also travelling to Uruguay "where civil war was devastating the country". "English vessels were arbitrarily seized and British property destroyed - there being no telegraph with Britain I had to act on my own responsibility.having been appealed to by British residents and the contending parties to mediate". This was apparently only partially successful though he did obtain compensation for destroyed property and the release of vessels. He then states: "In 1871 a most devastating yellow fever epidemic broke out" which is then detailed in five pages of letters from Macdonell printed in a contemporary newspaper. There then follow eleven pages of handwritten copies of letters to and from Macdonell. Here are some snippets: "B. Ayres Aug 1 1871 - Sir we feel it incumbent upon us after the sad ordeal through which this city has passed to express to you our high appreciation of your noble and determined conduct during the late visitation of yellow fever. In that distressing period when the mortality rose to such a height that the piles of coffins encumbered the graveyards waiting their turn for interment; when panic had seized every individual when friend deserted friend relative relatives - all who could fled the deserted city of the dead. Through all this like a good soldier you remained firm at your post". He writes that in November 1871 he obtained from the government of Montevideo payment of a debt contracted between that government and the British in 1834. The settlement of this claim apparently led to the breaking of all relations between the Montevideo government and the British government. In 1873 he was then involved in events leading up to the Virginius affair a diplomatic dispute that occurred from October 1873 to February 1875 between the United States Great Britain and Spain then in control of Cuba during the ten years war. In 1873 a British Yacht the Deerhound was seized by the Spanish who accused it of carrying insurgents - Macdonell was central from the British side in the diplomatic settlement. Similarly in late 1873 the Virginius an American ship carrying Cuban insurrectionists was seized by the Spanish and the Spanish began executing those on board as pirates. This is touched upon and Macdonnel seems to have had some involvment in the settlement. There are copies of letters from Lord Granville Lord Hammond and Earl Derby to Macdonell regarding this series of incidents. The 8 x 5.5 inch journal with blue paper covers marked 'Personal HGMacdonell' is overall G. BIO NOTES: from one online source: Rt. Hon. Sir Hugh Guion Macdonell; M #510393 b. 1832 d. 25 January 1904; Rt. Hon. Sir Hugh Guion Macdonell was born in 1832. He was the son of Lt.-Col. Hugh Macdonell and Anne Hughes. He married Anne Lamb daughter of Edward Lamb in July 1870. He died on 25 January 1904 without issue. He was educated at Royal Military College Sandhurst Berkshire England. He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant between 1848 and 1853 in the service of the Rifle Brigade. He was with the Diplomatic Service in 1853. He held the office of Ambassador to Brazil in 1885.1 He held the office of Ambassador to Denmark in 1888. He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross Order of St. Michael and St. George G.C.M.G. in 1899. QUEBEC CITY LORETTE BEAUMONT LOWER CANADA 1865. On offer is a fascinating original 1865 - 1866 manuscript diary handwritten by a young early 20s we estimate unidentified woman living in what was the heart of Lower Canada in or very near Quebec City. While the writer is unidentified there are many clues which local historians and researchers should find handy to identify this young pious and Church going but still cheeky enough to admit her flirtations very socially active Anglo woman living undoubtedly in or around Beaumont on the lower shore and Quebec City. She writes of going to the Island likely Ile d'Orleans Levis and many times to Lorette for as long as a week undoubtedly L'Ancienne-Lorette just west of Quebec City. Obviously of some means and at leisure filling her days with short trips visits social activities and of course the ever present Church is always either in the foreground or background. The woman uses a very plain beige paper cover notebook dating entries as written oft times short notes many times when something of particular interest has occurred a couple of lines. The book is dated as 'Journal Continued August 1st 1865' but any other volumes are absent lost to history making this volume all the more unique as a personal expression of a clearly Anglo woman's life pre-Confederation in a decidedly 'New France' locale. The 6 x 7¾ inch soft cover has 32 or so pages and is overall G. Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Manuscript. paperback

PLAYA VISTA CALIFORNIA 1970. On offer is a fascinating original three page manuscript diary handwritten by an unidentified man an employee of Latisteel who worked on Howard Hughes' legendary 'Spruce Goose' Hughes H-4 Hercules: registration NX37602 a massive heavy transport prototype developed by Hughes Aircraft Company originally intended for World War II but not completed in time. The aircraft made only one brief flight on November 2nd 1947. The author writing retrospectively likely late 1960s - 1970s he describes a short stay in three pages with not a wasted word describes the processes he went through including monumental moving tasks nearly single handed or his being in the rafters attaching a lock when he was able to see into a secret part of the Hughes Defence Plant where the first P-38 was housed before it was first unveiled. He reveals a number of stunning insider observations from Hughes employees filling every single bathroom stall in the massive complex but nobody's pants were down as they were hiding waiting for the day to end. He mentions the attempt to hire him away from Latisteel because he actually worked. Fascinating read of a fabled project. 1836 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT LOG OF A US NAVAL WAR SHIP STILL PATROLLING THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA PROTECTING AMERICAN COMMERCIAL INTERESTS 20 YEARS AFTER THE LAST BARBARY WAR
ABOARD THE USS SHARK MEDITERRANEAN 1836. On offer is a super original 19th Century manuscript relic of United States post Barbary Wars naval actions in the Mediterranean handwritten by an unidentified naval officer serving on the U.S.S. SHARK which was part of the Mediterranean Squadron protecting American commerce in 1836. The four page tightly written abstract log dated August 12th through September 29th details a trip up the Adriatic Sea to anchor off Trieste wherein they are quarantined for 14 days as there was Cholera ashore. Despite the quarantine the log records that Cholera broke out after they left Trieste and the loss of three crew on the passage from Trieste to Milos Greece where they again were quarantined. From there sailed to Jaffa Israel where they joined the squadron consisting of the ships and frigates: USS CONSTITUTION 'OLD IRONSIDES' USS UNITED STATES USS JOHN ADAMS and USS POTOMAC. The writer goes to Jerusalem during this time while the fleet is quarantined. After the quarantine they made repairs and during that time the log records that guns were fired and her flag was hoisted at half staff in memory President James Madison who had died in June. At Jaffa he and other officers are ordered to the U.S.S CONSTITUTION. Our author loved the SHARK as he writes in conclusion: "Good-bye Shark - After nine months close acquaintance I love thee no better than at the first interview albeit thou hast the Kentuckians mark of diving down deeper and staying under longer than any other craft which I remember to have encountered in my nautical career - then coming up dryer is quite another sort o' thing. Again farewell Shark -- Farewell". The SHARK was built in 1821 as a topsail schooner. It was involved in the suppression of the Slave Trade and in the 1840s was ordered to the Pacific. She was lost at the mouth of the Columbia River in 1846 and today several artefacts from the Shark are preserved in museums on the Northwest coast. 1848 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT LETTER REFERENCING A LITERARY FEUD HANDWRITTEN BY A BALTIMORE POET AND LONG TIME BITTER RIVAL OF EDGAR ALLAN POE
Baltimore Maryland MD Washington DC 1848. On offer is an interesting manuscript relic of pre Civil War Baltimore and American literary feuds being an autograph letter dated Washington Nov. 29 1848 signed by Baltimore poet Rufus Dawes who feuded with Edgar Allan Poe. The feud began in 1829 when Dawes a 26 year-old editor of a weekly Baltimore literary gazette published an unfavorable review of Poe's second book of poetry. Ten years later when Dawes a minor playwright published his own poetry Poe then assistant editor of a magazine wrote a review so scathing that the editor refused to print it. In 1841 another magazine which published Poe's "Mask of the Red Death" ran a fairly moderate review in which Poe noted that while Dawes' "opponents treat his pretensions as a poet with contempt" some of Dawes "minor" verse was "often exceedingly good". But in other reviews Poe said Dawes had "made a fool of himself" by writing "downright nonsense" about metaphysics while his longer poems were "pompous nonsense" which "have not been condemned only because they have never been read." There is no record of direct contact between the two men in Baltimore and this rare letter may be Dawes' only indirect allusion to his illustrious enemy who 11 months later died in that city in what was probably a drunken haze. Dawes had a minor government job when he wrote this letter to an aspiring young Rhode Island poet did not name the celebrated author of "The Raven" - then in his last year of life - but assuredly had Poe in mind when he talked of "malicious criticism". The three pages read in part: To Mr. Ruggles Dawes opens the letter with a very warm greeting and complimentary comment regarding Mr. Ruggles's sister Mrs. Gladding whose society he cherishes he then gets to the matter at hand "
I am gratified by your confidence in sending me those specimens of your poetry but I am one of the last persons to be called on to sit in judgment on such matters. The press is so flooded with verse and there are so many really good writers of fugitive poetry that it is extremely difficult to be distinguished in that line of composition. Then there is so much rivalry envy and malicious criticism that the chances of success are very small for all new aspirants while even the older writers are driven in disgust from the literary arena. I believe with you that 'poetry is hereditary to all Americans' - and to all men. I ascribe the great outburst of poetic thought good bad and indifferent to a struggle of the harmonious tendencies of human nature at this epoch of human advancement to realize themselves in the active sphere of life
mankind are now in a social point of view in a transitional state. There will certainly be a great social revolution in the course of this passing century - in our country probably of a gradual and peaceful character. But come it will
I like some of your verses very much - but if you were my own brother and you wrote even better than you do I could not advise you to enter on a career which I myself have almost entirely abandoned
the poetic faculty may be turned into more useful channels at present than in the composition of verses. Let the imagination swing itself fully into the region of noble human aspiration and efforts for the good of man and let all the genius the world possesses be concentrated on the great problems which now engage the minds of the reformers. and the irreplaceable loss that the battalion has suffered we all know. The following obituary will appear in the military weekly paper and in the Hamburg Evening Paper: On the 11th of December 1914 fell in battle in fearless fulfillment of his duty for Kaiser and for Reich the King's Captain and company leader of the Reserve Jäger-Battalion Infantry Otto Dieterichs Knight of the Iron Cross. He was a glowing example of bravery and soldier-like virtue a genuine German man and officer a dear comrade. Pain-filled we remember him and our remembrance will last far beyond death and grave. His men loved him and were loyal to him and pulled his body from the enemy fire

Boston 1775. On offer is a fascinating and intriguing manuscript relic of Christian faith being a handwritten c1770s manuscript copy of "A LETTER WRITTEN BY OUR BLESSED LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST AND FOUND UNDER A GREAT STONE SIXTY FIVE YEARS AFTER HIS CRUSIFIXION". This story and its variations of the teachings of Jesus appeared in several forms throughout Europe in earlier times and it would appear that someone had secured an English copy published in London and was perhaps preparing this as a copy for publication in Boston. However there is no record of it ever being published in America at this time but the rag paper is undoubtedly 18th Century and was copied as a keepsake. The letter states that keepers of a copy handwritten by the owner will protect homes and homeowners from pestilence plague and lighting. TANGIERS MOROCCO 1893. On offer is a fascinating nine page 1893 manuscript account of voyage handwritten by United States Navy midshipman William E. McKay aboard the flagship Franklin. McKay was made lieutenant and commanded the Inca 1898. Titled: 'Morocco Melilla and the Moors. A Boar Hunt at Tangiers by William E. McKay Boston 1893' William relates the history of the area religion war and a personal account of boar hunt in Tangiers. Here are some snippets: "Throughout Morocco all idiots and lunatics are accounted saints. When Allah withdraws the reason it is a mark of his special favour." "Above all Mohammedan countries Morocco is the land of Allah." "It is the duty of Rifs to kill to steal and to murder; it is their disgrace to die in bed." ".slavery exists but in an easy form. Even a freed slave may come to rule over Morocco." "It was as a midshipman on board the flagship Franklin that I first made acquaintance with Tangiers." He reminisces about a boar hunt in Tangiers: No boar caught but much excitement "The United States Consul invited the officers of the fleet to go on a boar-hunt. The beaters made a terrific hulla-baloo the dogs howled and we waited all the forenoon."; "I proposed that we relieve the monotony of the ride by racing across a great sandy stretch; then we began discharging our Colt revolvers in true Cow-boy style." ".many of the Rifs are easily distinguished by the odd custom of wearing a long lock of hair on one side of the head." "I saw four Riffians attack a Jew for no cause whatever.they fell upon him with sticks and stones." "The Moorish arch is a jewel of architecture." Handwritten legible ink on onionskin paper. 1853 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT LETTER SIGNED ALS BY NOTED QUAKER AND STATIONMASTER OF THE COUDERSPORT PA UNDERGROUND RAILROAD
COUDERSPORT PENNSYLVANIA POTTER COUNTY 1853. On offer is an original manuscript letter handwritten by an important local Quaker reformer and Underground Railroad figure John S. Mann 1816-1879 who was a Quaker lawyer born in Chester County Pennsylvania. He was a teacher but moved to Coudersport in 1841. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1842. He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives 1866-1868 1871; School Director 1858-1872 Coudersport Burgess 1862-1865; and Editor of the Potter Journal 1874-1879. Mann was the Underground Railroad "Stationmaster" for Coudersport which was an important stop on the route used by escaping slaves. Both his home and the building where his wife's bookstore was located were used to hide slaves. The latter even had a secret room. His son Arthur said as a young boy it was "not uncommon to find a colored person at the breakfast table". This letter dated Nov 8 1853 concerns settlers on the owner's lands addressed to 'Dear Sir' but most likely to John Keating elderly land owner of much land in Potter County Pennsylvania. Mann was an agent for John Keating 1760-1856 an Irish-French immigrant who bought 200000 acres in northern Pennsylvania in 1796 and began selling it the next year. "Coudersport Nov 8 1853 Dr Sir On my return I went to your lands as you suggested and made contracts with those settlers which had not already entered into contract. I succeeded in obtaining a contract with all but two and one of them was willing to do so but his improvement had been sold at sheriff's sale and the purchaser did not live in this county. The other one refused to contract and says he will hold by possession
. I am satisfied he cannot and I think Mr. Harwick ought to take his lot at his own risk as I can furnish you a purchaser who will take his contract and not ask you to guarantee the possession of any of the lots. It took me so long to get over the tract that I am unable to make out a statement of the amount due on the old contracts and so I enclose thirteen of them herewith. Will send the new contracts by next mail together with a draft of the tracts showing the amount and location of the lots sold Yours truly Jno S. Mann". A receiving notation gives Mann's name again. HOLLAND THE NETHERLANDS 1936. On offer is an original manuscript letter handwritten by the former Prime Minister of Holland dated November 15 1936 Dr. H. Colijn Prime Minister of The Netherlands writes a very warmly written 4 page letter on his personal stationery to Miss Marjorie Whyte daughter of Mr. Robert Whyte Jr. a famous singer cellist and agent in his time and his wife and also a world renowned cellist Margaret Whyte. The Doctor in this letter makes reference to a mountain climb his son is just about to undertake and for which the boy becomes famous after publishing the account of his adventure. The 7.5 x 5.75 inch letter has some yellowing on the front page but otherwise clean. Previously fold there are some words legible but caught in the crease of the fold. Overall G. ABOARD THE SS SIBIR SS SIBERIA 1938. On offer is a charming original pre World War II letter handwritten by "Elston" Elston Grey Turner 1916-1984 in 1938. The letter contains six pages and describes some of his trip aboard the Soviet Russian ship S.S. Sibir S. S. Siberia leaving from the Port of London into the North Sea with mentions of Intourist officials Russian tea service a suicide in Paris 'passengers are an amazing collection: some Russian Armenian queer Americans and rather cranky English.' Elston had a very distinguished record of war service starting as a regimental medical officer with the Coldstream Guards during which time he was awarded the Military Cross for bravery. Overall G. 1699. On offer is a superb 17th Century handwritten Latin manuscript book: "Logica Metaphisica et Theologia Naturalia" ex libris "Chateau de Pointis". In three parts: 1 Ad Universam Philosophiam; 2 Philosophia Trancendantalis Seu Metaphisica; 3 Theologia Naturalis. Stunning though flawed spine missing 3 inches of the leather gilt ornamented cap severe rubbing to the edges is illustrated with several flourishes in the 396 hand numbered pages including 7 pages of manuscript index 7 full page engraved by Du Bois and C. Galle plates. The work of an unnamed scrivener nice calligraphic hand throughout the title page names one 'Geraldi Cavailher' who may have been the original author or indeed the scrivener though this is unlikely. 1943 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT DIARY HANDWRITTEN BY WORLD WAR II DOCTOR AND SURGEON WHO DETAILS LIFE IN COMBAT 1943-1944
1943. Original World War II Lt. Commanders personal diary that belonged to Lt. Commander Herbert Goebert USNR while on active military duty. This diary is in excellent intact condition. Entries range throughout 1943 and 1944. Here are some of the entries: writing of D-Day - he writes on Monday June 5th 1944 23:30 hrs. "News of invasion in London 6:30 A.M. 6/6 have a happy group around radio. 2 letters looks formidable in date. This invasion means beginning of end but a long way yet". Tuesday February 22 1944: "Worst unable to read yet. 120 - 125 per hour. I was blown off feet onto fanny. Two huts gone. Aided corpman securing gear. Von I Fires all out for unable to read plenty cold. Tempted to pack my gear. Lights all on. No worry about surprise attack tonight". Monday April 10 1944: Mentions the Sullivans. Friday April 21 1944 23:30 hrs: "Just finished 56 hr. duty without sleep. Everything is OK. Can't tell what happened. So tired I need sleeping tablet. Have been recomended as doing an excellent job. So I had a cutting good time. Had 2 letters 4/10 4/11". June 15 1944: Speaks of B-29's over Japan. August 24 1943/44: Speaks of having dinner with the Presidents physician. Friday December 31 1943: " Seems like wishful thinking to think of peace next year! So much to be done. Lets hope we're wrong". Many other interesting entries. By reading this diary it would seem that Lt. Commander Goebert was transfered from base to base. He writes of being homesick and how his son is a year and a half older since he last seen him. Lt Commander Goebert was a surgeon and he writes of many of the cases that he performed "bullet in brain" and "epidemic of amputations" and this is just to name a few. . Soft Cover. Napolean's Lucky Dream Book Oracullum And Book of Fate
<p>Originally published in English in England of all places in the 1800s this digest-sized American paperback version tells of numerology palm reading and other forms of prediction and character divination and is in pretty decent shape. It's in its original binding and has minimal nicks and one small scotch tape repair. It is not dirty or faded much neither are the corners bumped to any great degree. This is a very rare copy indeed difficult to chart and rarer still to be in collector-worthy condition. Ottenheimers at the time did many joke books for vaudeville professionals and others another exceptional aspect of Napolean's Lucky Dream book.</p><p>Photo on request.</p> I.&M. Ottenheimer paperback

1830 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT RELIC OF THE SEMINOLE INDIAN WARS AND THE SCANDALOUS CHARGES OF DESERTION AGAINST THE TENNESSEE VOLUNTEER SOLDIERS
TENNESSEE FLORIDA TN FL 1830. On offer is a super 1830 manuscript relic of the Seminole Indian wars being a 16 verse poem handwritten by David Eilenberger as seen by his signature about the Tennessee soldiers who went to Florida during the Seminole War fighting with Jackson when he invaded Florida and then who left when their time was up but then were jailed and tried for treason. The poem alludes to the scandalous mix-up about service times during the Seminole War and which caused supposed desertion charges to the Tennessee militiamen. There has been a 1 ½ x 2 ¾ piece cut from the top right corner affecting nine lines and small word loss in the 9th 10th and 11th verses otherwise good. Overall G. Good. It refers to a General Maxwell and money and says in part: "Dear sir General Maxwell has been here & through the multiplicity of business forgot to bring the money to me. Therefore if any of you will go to Greenwich expect you can have the sum mentioned be there
