Conte was enormously influenced by Griffin's undercover work which culminated in the best-selling Black Like Me--not only does he cite it in his inscription even the jacket blurb refers to it. Outlaws Forever did not have the same succès fou though it does include short sketches of several members of the club and the initiation process while the meat of the story describes a jaunt from Chicago to Daytona.
