Near fine. <p>Robinson writes to Bruce Kellner of Hartwick College Oneonta NY arranging a time when they can meet at the Met. "It will be a pleasure to talk to you about Mr. Van Vechten. Saturday is actually a better day for me than Friday because Friday we have a dress rehearsal of ADRIANA LECOUVREUR." Kellner was a Van Vechten scholar the author of "Carl Van Vechten and the Irreverent Decades" 1968.<p>Francis Robinson 1910-1980 who was photographed by Carl Van Vechten was the longtime assistant manager of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Roland deCandé appartient à la catégorie des rares musicologues doués d'un talent pédagogique indéniable comme en témoignent les nombreux ouvrages qu'il a signés depuis les années soixante. S'atteler à l'écriture d'un dictionnaire de la musique n'est pas chose aisée et Roland deCandé s'y est essayé par deux fois en 1961 et 1997. Ce Nouveau dictionnaire de la musique emprunte aux précédents livres plusieurs de ses rubriques augmentées de nombreuses autres et qui tiennent compte de l'évolution de la connaissance musicale notamment dans le domaine du répertoire baroque. À l'instar des deux premières éditions on est frappé par la clarté du propos de l'auteur qui s'adresse tant aux spécialistes qu'aux néophytes. Minutieusement répartie par ordre alphabétique toute l'information essentielle sur les compositeurs les notions de technique musicale et les grands courants esthétiques à travers les siècles est présente sous forme de résumés qui sont des modèles de précision et de concision. Le grand public y trouvera son compte; les mélomanes chevronnés pourront toujours noter l'absence de telle ou telle entrée du dictionnaire mais viendront souvent y réviser quelques connaissances qu'ils croyaient acquises. --Pierre Guillaume Bon Etat de l'ensemble
