Progettato su una solida base scientifica legata alla letteratura di storia naturale e delle osservazioni sulle popolazioni selvatiche, il libro ha il pregio di alternare informazioni scientifiche a quelle di carattere divulgativo. A una prima parte dedicata alla storia naturale, senza dimenticare i riferimenti alla conservazione, ne segue una seconda riservata alla distinzione e alle peculiarità di ogni specie del genere. La terza ed ultima parte è infine dedicata alle tecniche, ai dati e alle visioni legate all'allevamento e alla gestione in ambiente controllato. Si rivela quindi un ottimo strumento, tanto di studio quanto di consultazione, per appassionati e allevatori che dedicano quotidianamente del tempo a questi pappagalli. A impreziosire ulteriormente il libro è la sezione storiografica, redatta da Francesco Saverio Dalba, che soddisfa la curiosità intellettuale del lettore più esigente e raffinato. Il risultato ottenuto è un manuale completo, ricco di dettagli, foto, grafici e informazioni, ma al tempo stesso pratico ed efficace nella sua concretezza.
