Contraddizione e melanconia. Saggio sull'ambivalenza
Basta una breve indagine sulle forme di vita contemporanee per constatare che esse sono spesso contraddistinte da quel che la logica e la psicologia chiamano "ambivalenza" (amo mio padre anche se, verso di lui, nutro un profondo sentimento di astio. Vado in guerra, armato di tutto punto, perché impegnato in una missione di pace...). Al riguardo il libro propone una tesi forte: l'ambivalenza non è un dettaglio irrilevante per la nostra specie ma un fenomeno chiave per comprendere, oggi più che mai, l'incastro tra biologia e storia che contraddistingue la natura umana. Quelle che, spesso con aria di sdegno, vengono definite "credenze contraddittorie" indicano, innanzitutto, stati di incertezza, una mancanza di orientamento automatico, spaziale ed emotivo, che è il dato di partenza biologico che caratterizza la struttura del nostro comportamento. La struttura biologica che distingue l'Homo sapiens dalle altre forme di vita non è infatti una particolare dotazione istintuale. Per comprendere il comportamento umano, con le sue incertezze e la sua razionalità, è necessario indagare a fondo, una nozione diversa, quella di "pulsione": è un istinto non giunto a maturazione, un indirizzo all'azione che non ha una direzione prestabilita. L'ambivalenza rappresenta, dunque, l'espressione logica primigenia che è la struttura primitiva della grammatica del nostro corpo. Autori: Marco Mazzeo.

Il libro offre una panoramica del pensiero di Helmuth Plessner, soffermandosi sui suoi nuclei teoretici fondamentali. La tesi generale della ricerca è che per comprendere quest'autore, ossia per comprendere l'antropologia filosofica come autonomo movimento di pensiero del ventesimo secolo, occorra risalire alle origini del discorso moderno sull'uomo. A questo scopo la prima parte del volume delinea i passaggi chiave che dal Rinascimento all'Illuminismo hanno condotta alla "svolta antropologica", alla fondazione di una teoria dell'uomo come chiave della filosofia. Successivamente si delineano le condizioni che nel Novecento hanno portato alla rinascita dell'antropologia, ossia a una nuova svolta antropologica. Su queste premesse diventa più chiara la posta in gioco dell'antropologia di Plessner e dei suoi temi chiave: la teoria della sensibilità, dei confini corporei, delle espressioni mimiche, dei ruoli, delle mediazioni, della decisione politica. Tutti temi condensati in quel modello dell'uomo come essere eccentrico a cui il nome di Plessner è principalmente associato. Il volume intende contribuire alla conoscenza dell'antropologia come "disciplina filosofica" sviluppatasi in Germania nell'età di Kant e diventata di moda tra le due guerre mondiali. Si tratta di comprendere se vi sia una linea di continuità tra queste varie apparizioni, se e quali ne siano le caratteristiche comuni e i presupposti di fondo, e dunque se l'antropologia sia una disciplina della filosofia oppure un orientamento generale del pensiero moderno (nel qual caso, bi sognerà capire quale rapporto c'è tra i temi specifici dell'antropologia e una filosofia "umanistica", un pensiero fattosi tutto "antropologico"). A tal fine viene qui presentato un primo profilo storico-concettuale dell'antropologia filosofica, soffermandosi poi su Helmuth Plessner, che, accanto a Max Scheler e ad Arnold Gehlen, ne è considerato uno dei più interessanti e significativi esponenti. MARCO RUSSO è dottore di ricerca in Filosofia. Ha compiuto gli studi in filosofia e in musica a Napoli con perfezionamento presso l'Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici di Napoli e, in Germania, sotto la guida di Gernot Böhme e Herbert Schnädelbach. Die auffallendste Neuerung des Werkes stellen die Abbildungen dar. Es versteht sich von selbst, daß die Frage nach ihrer Notwendigkeit oder auch nur Zweckdienlichkeit der peinlichsten Prüfung bedurfte und, wie wir versichern dürfen, unterzogen worden ist. Die Frage wurde bejaht, nachdem aus dem Kreise der ernstesten Benutzer des Handwörterbuches immer wieder das Fehlen von Abbildungen als ein Mangel gerügt worden ist, der dem nicht ohnehin bereits gut orientierten und daher auf das Werk gerade weniger angewiesenen Leser das Verständnis der Texte stellenweise übermäßig erschwerte. Das konnte sachlich auch gar nicht bezweifelt werden, und die Bedanken gegen Bildbeigaben bezogen sich auch nur auf die Möglichkeit unsachlicher Verwertung. Aber solche Erwägungen durften doch wohl nicht auf die Dauer das Handwörterbuch bewußterweise mit einem Mangel behaften: die mißbräuchliche Benutzung und Ausbeute wissenschaftlicher Werke ist nicht zu verhüten und braucht nicht verantwortet zu werden. Freilich mußte die Auswahl der Abbildungen, die nicht nur unmittelbar belehren, sondern auch den Stoff hier und da beleben sollten, mit einer gewissen Behutsamkeit erfolgen, ohne jedoch der Prüderie verfallen zu dürfen - einer Prüderie, die, beiläufig bemerkt, dem Herausgeber schon in der Kritik an der ersten Auflage gelegentlich zum Vorwurf gemacht (Erich Arndt, a. a. 0.) und nun an ihm auch bei einer Besprechung der ersten Lieferungen der gegenwärtigen Ausgabe von Seiten eines anderen Rezensenten wiederum gerügt worden ist (D.M.W. 51, Nr. 28)! Zur Andeutung der Schwierigkeiten, die in dieser Hinsicht dem Herausgeber erwachsen - zugleich auch als garnicht kurioses Kuriosum -, sei hier über die abweichende Äußerung eines angesehenen Psychiaters und Universitätsprofessors berichtet, der die Herausgabe des Handwörterbuches für eine "Schamlosigkeit" erklärte. Mit einer weiteren redaktionellen Änderung glaubt der Herausgeber den Wert des Buches als eines Nachschlagewerkes nicht unbedeutend erhöht zu haben. Die Stichworte, die bisher nur aufgeführt worden waren, bezüglich deren Behandlung aber auf einen anderen Titel verwiesen worden war, sind aus dem Text herausgenommen und in einem neu angefügten eigenen Sachregister untergebracht worden; diesem folgt, ebenfalls erstmalig, ein Namenregister. … (Vorwort zur 2.
