Von Männern anlässlich Stammestreffen, Hochzeiten, religiöser und staatlicher Feiertage ausgeübt, dient er Im tribalen Empfangsritual der Konfliktvermeidung und der Integration Fremder. Die ethnologische Studie analysiert zunächst Choreographie und rituelle Aufführungspraxis des Barca und setzt sie in Beziehung zu allgemeinen Verhaltensnormen und sozialen Werten im Jemen. Das sich hieraus ergebende Bewegungs- und Gesellschaftskonzept bietet einen spezifischen Blick auf arabische Prinzipien der Kategoriebildung und auf die islamische Debatte um die Statthaftigkeit von Musik und Tanz.
