Tadelloses, neuwertiges Ex. Le « moment 68 » constitue un temps de grand bouleversement social et culturel dans les sociétés occidentales. Les communautés religieuses n’ont pas échappé à ce séisme sociétal. Parmi les secousses qui ébranlent l’Église catholique durant ces premières « années conciliaires », se distingue une révolution plus invisible que silencieuse, celle que les femmes catholiques ont imposé à l’institution ecclésiale. Cette « armée de réserve », composée de pratiquantes et de militantes, avait jusque-là érigé un « catholicisme au féminin ». Or, l’aggiornamento conciliaire ne les concerne guère. Leurs paroles sont tues, leurs présences silencieuses tout au plus tolérées. C’est ignorer la lame de fond qui bouleverse les mondes sociaux et culturels de plusieurs générations de femmes européennes des années 1960. Celles de confession catholique sont particulièrement ébranlées. Des pratiques en baisse fournissent une explication à la « rupture de la pente religieuse de 1965 » et la réception d’Humanæ Vitæ (1968) engendre autant de révoltes que d’incompréhensions. Ce « coup de grâce » libère une parole et de nouveaux comportements pour la décennie suivante. L’impact de ce « moment 68 » n’a guère été étudié en ce qui concerne les femmes catholiques européennes, tant dans leurs manière de vivre que leurs rapports à l’institution ecclésiale. Cinq angles d’approche thématique sont ici abordés : fécondité et sexualité ; paroles et journaux intimes ; congrégations religieuses ; mouvements et organisations ; féminisme. br. Ci sono alcune idee portanti della civiltà occidentale che ci appaiono del tutto ovvie e naturali. Ma, se le osserviamo da vicino e nel contesto delle altre civiltà, scopriamo che esse hanno addirittura un carattere eccezionale ed eccentrico. Due fra queste idee sono indicate dai termini individuo ed eguaglianza. Louis Dumont si è proposto di mostrare appunto la peculiarità di tali idee, il loro formarsi, le loro implicazioni. Questo ampio disegno comprende «Homo hierarchicus» (1966) e i due volumi di «Homo aequalis». Nel pensiero di Dumont la polarità gerarchia/eguaglianza ha una funzione fondatrice, ma dietro di essa se ne distingue un'altra: olismo/individualismo. Tra le società che conosciamo, l'individualismo moderno si presenta come un caso unico, articolato però in forme diverse. Dapprima Dumont fi ssa l'attenzione sul nostro rapporto con le cose e su quella disciplina dove esso diventa tematico, l'economia politica. E ci mostra come l'emanciparsi della categoria dell'economico coincida con il sorgere e il trionfare dell'«ideologia moderna». Nel secondo volume si concentra sulla comparazione fra le varianti nazionali di tale ideologia, e in particolare su quella tedesca - e, a mano a mano che se ne delineano i tratti specifici, sugli «aspetti francesi più o meno corrispondenti». Da grande antropologo quale è, Dumont non si distacca mai dalla precisione del dettaglio: «Più è ambiziosa la prospettiva, più deve essere meticolosa la cura del particolare, più umile l'artigiano».

THE DESTINY OF A KING
The preeminent scholar of comparative studies of Indo-European society, Georges Dumézil theorized that ancient and prehistoric Indo-European culture and literature revolved around three major functions: sovereignty, force, and fertility. This work treats these functions as they are articulated through "first king" legends found in Indian, Iranian, and Celtic epics, particularly the Mahabharata. Dumézil, drawing on an extraordinarily broad range of Indo-European sources from Scandinavia to India and offering an original and provocative analytic method, set a new agenda for studies in comparative oral literature, historical linguistics, comparative mythology, and history of religions. The Destiny of a King examines one of the "little" epics within the Mahabharata—the legend of King Yayati, a distant ancestor of the Pandavas, the heroes of the larger epic. Dumézil compares Yayati's attributes and actions with those of the legendary Celtic king Eochaid Feidlech and also finds striking similarities in the stories surrounding the daughters of these two kings, the Indian Madhavi and the Celtic Medb. When he compares these two traditions with the "first king" legends from Iran, he finds such common themes as the apportionment of the earth and the "sin of the sovereign.
