The world has many medicines and thousands of practitioners who do not believe that "Western" medicine is a universal cure-all. A differenza di altri etologi, anche illustri, che nel trattare questi delicati raffronti sono arrivati troppo bruscamente a propugnare tesi di grande effetto, ma premature, Eibl-Eibesfeldt procede con estrema cautela in questa giungla di nuove prospettive: il lettore seguirà con non minore passione l'autore su questa via, esaminando con lui passo per passo una quantità impressionante e abilmente selezionata di dati del mondo animale e umano, che pongono ancora sconcertanti interrogativi. I. Eibl-Eibesfeldt, nato a Vienna nel 1928, lavora al Max-Planck-Institut ed è attualmente professore di zoologia presso l'università di Monaco. Amore e odio è stato uno dei best-seller in Germania nel 1970; se ne stanno preparando edizioni negli Stati Uniti, in Inghilterra, Francia, Danimarca, Svezia e Olanda.
