Le origini della vita sulla Terra e in modo particolare dell'essere umano sono argomento di discussione di due scuole di pensiero dominanti, da sempre contrapposte: tenaci sostenitori dell'evoluzionismo da una parte e altrettanto irremovibili seguaci della tradizione religiosa creazionista dall'altra. Liberato da quella chiave di lettura teologica forse mai appartenuta agli antichi autori biblici, il libro della Genesi ci racconta una storia molto diversa da quella comunemente tramandata. Una storia tutta fisica in cui la presenza dell'essere umano sulla Terra potrebbe non ripercorre i sentieri di un divino atto creazionistico né quelli di un naturale processo evolutivo ma quelli di una "terza via" che collega le nostre origini a ciò che oggi definiremmo un "interventismo biogenetico". In questo saggio l'autore analizza il dibattuto tema cercando di sintetizzare in modo logico l'insieme di informazioni bibliche portate a sostegno dell'interventismo biogenetico con diverse acquisizioni scientifiche a noi contemporanee, in modo da esplorare eventuali relazioni tra questi due mondi apparentemente così distanti.

Eugenetica senza tabù. Usi e abusi di un concetto
br. Nel dibattito pubblico italiano l'apparato simbolico del discorso ostile alla genetica e alla biomedicina contemporanee si fonda sull'impiego polemico di accezioni fortemente negative della parola "eugenetica". Si tratti di diagnosi prenatale, fecondazione assistita o terapia genica, è sempre questa parola-tabù a comparire. E ad accompagnarla è, il più delle volte, il riferimento a uno specifico contesto storico: il nazismo. In tale discorso stigmatizzante l'eugenetica viene presentata come una forma di "pseudoscienza reazionaria, razzista e antisemita", fonte di violenza e discriminazioni. Ma spesso una reale definizione è del tutto assente. In forte contrasto con tale banalizzazione, negli ultimi trent'anni la storiografia ha definito un quadro sempre più complesso dell'eugenetica nel Novecento. Alla luce di questi sviluppi il libro ragiona sull'uso pubblico del concetto di "eugenetica", per decostruire le ambiguità semantiche, spesso strumentali, legate all'adozione del termine nel dibattito politico-culturale italiano.
