Actually undated - the date was provided by a previous owner who wrote inside where and when the book was originally purchased. Wear at the corners with some short horizontal splits along the spine two of which lead into the front cover; some minor chipping at the foot of the spine. This was Haggard's first story featuring Allan Quatermain. And it has been filmed a few times starting with a silent movie in 1919 directed by Horace Lisle Lucoque and starring Albert Lawrence as Quatermain. The next was 1937 directed by Robert Stevenson and Geoffrey Barkas starring Cedric Hardwicke as Quatermain and Paul Robeson as Umbopa. Then came the 1950 version directed by Compton Bennett and Andrew Marton starring Stewart Granger as Quatermain along with Deborah Kerr and others. Next was the 1985 version directed by J. Lee Thompson and starring Richard Chamberlain Sharon Stone Herbert Lom; John Rhys-Davies and a host of others. And in 2004 it was a television mini-series directed by Steve Boyum and starring Patrick Swayze as Quatermain with Alison Doody Roy Marsden and many others. All in all a somewhat popular story.
