Deciso a ucciderne uno, li segue fino alle rive di un lago in mezzo al bosco ma, appena gli eleganti animali si posano sull'acqua, avviene l'incanto e si trasformano in bellissime fanciulle. Una in particolare rapisce l'attenzione del giovane, la principessa Odette, che gli racconta di essere vittima, insieme alle sue dame di compagnia, dell'incantesimo del malvagio Rothbart, che la trasforma in un cigno durante il giorno per farle riprendere le sembianze umane la notte. Solo una promessa di matrimonio potrà liberarla dal maleficio, così Sigfried, perdutamente innamorato, invita Odette al ballo durante il quale dovrà scegliere la sua sposa la sera seguente. Non sa, però, che Rothbart è venuto a conoscenza delle sue intenzioni e ha già in mente un perfido piano per ingannarlo. Gabriel Pacheco intreccia ora la dimensione fiabesca con quella teatrale del balletto, raccontando la storia di una delle più celebri opere del musicista russo ?ajkovskij attraverso immagini eteree in cui, sullo sfondo di palazzi principeschi e boschi incantati, i personaggi sembrano volteggiare sulle punte. Le tavole, costruite quasi come un palcoscenico su cui sembra di veder entrare e uscire protagonisti e comparse, alternano i luminosi toni pastello del giallo e dell'azzurro a quelli opachi dell'ocra e del marrone, sottolineando la simbologia di un racconto senza parole nato in musica e reinterpretato per immagini.
