Prima rara edizione, nessun esemplare censito in ICCU, di questo studio del grande medico francese originario di Pont-Saint-Esprit (Nimes, Gard) Raymond Restaurand. L’autore praticò in particolare a Montpellier e a Nimes. Fu uno dei primi in Francia a professare la dottrina della circolazione del sangue pubblicando su questo argomento un celebre trattato uscito lo stesso anno di questo. Basandosi principalmente su Ippocrate, egli difende il vino, il ghiaccio e l’acqua come trattamento delle febbri maligne. L’opera contiene descrizioni di diversi tipi di “morbi” che colpiscono le varie parti del corpo umano come gli occhi, il naso, le orecchi, i polmoni, lo stomaco, l’uretra, il fegato, ma analizza anche mali diversi come l’epilessia, le emicranie, gli incubi, la catalessi. Dopo la vita di redi l'opera riporta vari casi medici seguiti dall'aretino: Per alcuni tubercoli nelle palpebre degli occhi, per una Gotta con nefritide, Per una Idropesia dei Polmoni, Per facili accensioni di sangue e di testa, Per una ostinatissima ostruzione nelle vene dell'utero d'una dama, Per un'Asma, Per una caligine di vista, e principio di suffusione, dopo un infiammazione d'occhi, Per una sordità d'orecchie, Per una gravezza nello stomaco, Per alcune febbri terzane vaganti in Livorno, Per un'affezione ipocondriaca, Per un mormorio d'orecchie, Per una diminuzione di vista, ed altri mali nell'occhio destro d'una dama ecc. In-4° grande; pp. xxviii, 224, (4), 9 litografie e una grande carta geografica degli “Stati Sardi di terraferma” ossia il Piemonte-Savoia, su cui con tre colori diversi sono sottolineati i paesi oggetto dell’indagine in base alla presenza di: Soli gozzi, Cretinismo sporadico assai frequente, Cretinismo endemico, Massima intensità di cretinismo endemico. Legatura in mezza pelle verde con titolo e fregi in oro al dorso. Carlo Alberto sollecita nel 1845 uno studio sulla piaga del cretinismo, nominando una Commissione costituita da studiosi in medicina, chimica e geologia, che sarà persieduta dal Prof. Gallo, al fine di individuarne le cause e trovarne di conseguenza delle soluzioni. Il risultato è un’opera straordinaria per completezza e approccio scientifico assolutamente positivista, che coinvolgendo scienze quali la medicina, la sociologia, la chimica, la geografia, la geologia, indissolubilmente legate a esami autoptici su campo, delinea uno studio approfondito sul cretinismo, esponendo al contempo una metodologia di approccio. Sette capitoli arricchiti di numerose tabelle definiscono storia e letteratura del cretinismo (compresa una possibile etimologia da chrétien), la descrizione di segni e sintomi fisici, la fisiologia delle funzioni, la vita di relazione e i diversi caratteri; si propone una classificazione secondo l’intensità della malattia; si circoscrive un’area geografica dove si individua la distribuzione del fenomeno; si individuano le cause (fattori alimentari, ambientali, primo fra tutti il problema della acque potabili, ereditari, di sangue ecc.), infine cure e profilassi suggerite almeno per evitare che il fenomeno progredisca. Una riduzione del problema si ebbe conseguentemente al ridursi del grado di povertà. Nove tavole raffigurano altrettanti ritratti a figura intera di persone affette da gozzo o cretinismo. Il gozzo e il cretinismo (in sostanza due diverse manifestazioni di un mal funzionamento della tiroide, e della carenza di iodio dovuta anche a malnutrizione) erano talmente diffuse in Savoia da rappresentare una vera e propria calamità; si trattava di affezioni allora tipicamente legate al territorio montuoso alpino, in più, data la naturale posizione di passaggio tra Italia e Francia della regione, molti viaggiatori riportavano annotazioni sugli “esseri anormali” che popolavano la zona. In 4° (22×15,8 cm); VI, 144 pp. Legatura coeva in tutta tela rossa con titolo e fregi in oro al dorso. Qualche leggera ed ininfluente macchiolina di foxing in alcune pagine e nel complesso esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione. Prima ed unica assai rara edizione di questa monografia dedicata al massaggio ed alle sue varie tecniche opera del noto medico Alberto Reibmayr. L’autore rielabora le tecniche di massaggio di Berghman e Helleday analizzando l’azione fisiologica del massaggio e l’uso del massaggio nella medicina interna, in chirurgia, in ostetricia, in ginecologia e in oftalmoiatria. L’opera contiene anche una sezione dedicata alla bibliografia delle opere dedicate al massaggio. L’opera è tradotta e presenta le note del noto medico veronese Orsino Manganotti. Prima assai rara edizione italiana di uno dei testi pionieristici della disciplina del massaggio e della fisioterapia.
