CON UN VOCABOLARIO DELLE VOCI DIFFICILI CHE SONO IN QUESTA OPERA & CON I DISSEGNI DE GLI STROMENTI CO QUALI SI COLTIVA & SI LAVORA LA TERRA Un volume in 8° di 8 carte non numerate, 481 (correttamente 479) carte numerate, con 22 tavole incise in legno a piena pagina. Qualche brunitura, ma nel complesso eccellente esemplare. Legatura in piena pergamena moderna (con stile antico) con dorso liscio muto. – L'Opus Ruralium Commodorum di Pietro Crescenzi, bolognese (1233-1320) viene considerato il più importante trattato di agronomia medievale. Per dichiarazione dello stesso autore il testo si basa su tre tipi di fonti: autori antichi, moderni, ed esperienza personale. L'opera viene destinata ad un pubblico socialmente ben definito nell'Italia del 300: quello della borghesia che aveva costruito un patrimonio nel contado (villa). Il suo carattere di enciclopedia pratica ne assicurò il successo, fino alla fine del secolo XVI. Questa del 1564 è una delle edizioni più apprezzate ed accurate, nella traduzione e cura del Sansovino, che aveva notato come le stampe precedenti fossero spesso mal tradotte fino a rendere incomprensibili interi passaggi del testo L'opera è divisa in 12 capitoli che affrontano tutti i diversi aspetti della buona conduzione di una "villa": dalla qualità delle terre alle coltivazioni, dalle erbe agli animali. . Un intero capitolo viene tra l'altro dedicato alla coltivazione della vite e al vino. Le figure xilografiche rappresentano fiori, frutti e strumenti per il lavoro agricolo.
