In molti scritti professionali e poetici della maturità resta traccia di "un'amorosa intimità con gli alberi e con le erbe" di un territorio toscano percepito innanzitutto come casa comune. Tra le macerie della guerra, gli "amici fiori rigenerano" la speranza che riaffiori "misteriosa e fresca" la parola "patria".

ill. Il giovane Filippo de Pisis collezionò un erbario di piante essiccate, donato poi al museo botanico patavino, dove venne disaggregato. Le autrici della quinquennale opera di individuazione e riaccorpamento delle opere, evidenziano le implicazioni culturali della tendenza di de Pisis a "osservare" il regno vegetale, passando poi ad analizzare il profilo più strettamente botanico e paesaggistico della collezione di erbe. Il saggio è arricchito da immagini e schede botaniche che testimoniano altresì la serietà scientifica della collezione esaminata.

These factors contribute to irrevocable and permanent soil erosion and the loss of a wealth of irreplaceable flora. For all these reasons it is highly gratifying that many years of effort on the part of Walter R��sli with the support of a handful of Malagasy and Swiss enthusiasts has now paid off with the publication of this strikingly beautiful book about the endemic members of the genus Pachypodium on the Big Red Island.
