A Robert Thornton's Temple of Flora was first published in 1807 and is the most famous and impressive flower book of the period. The introduction gives the story of the book and an historical perspective. There are detailed notes about each plate. There are botanical notes by William T. Stearn. This is the best edition since the original of 1807, finely and carefully produced, being much larger than the 1972 edition, with finer plates. The jacket, although quite worn with 5 by 9 cm chip, is often lacking.

Da queste emerge, ora di sfuggita, ora con rilevante evidenza il mondo delle piante che fu proprio dell'epoca cui le vicende bibliche si riferiscono. Tali vicende sono state oggetto, per la loro importanza religiosa e storica, di numerose ricerche. Gli aspetti della botanica, estrapolati dal racconto biblico, vogliono formare l'oggetto del presente studio, per evidenziarlo rispetto al testo biblico, onde sottoporlo all'attenzione di studiosi o più semplicemente di amanti della lettura della Bibbia. Gli autori (Maria Grilli Caiola, Paolo Maria Guarrera, Alessandro Travaglini) animati da eguale passione hanno cercato di redigere con dovizia di notizie e di documenti questo studio di ricerca e di esposizione che essi sottopongono con modestia, quando non con umiltà, al sereno giudizio dei lettori e in primo luogo con gratitudine per i tanti veri esperti della ricerca biblica che hanno voluto aiutarli. Opera di questi tre botanici italiani è il frutto di un lavoro di erborizzazione tra le pagine della Bibbia nella ricerca della piante presenti nella terra di Israele ai tempi biblici e attuali e il loro significato.
