Meyen (1804-1840), deutscher Botaniker, studierte Medizin in Berlin, interessierte sich daneben für Naturwissenschaften insbesondere für Botanik. 1830 erhielt er die Gelegenheit, auf dem Seehandlungsschiffe "Prinzeß Luise" als Schiffsarzt eine Reise um die Erde mitzumachen, wobei er zahlreiche naturwissenschaftliche Expeditionen unternahm u.a. auf den Anden, den Sandwichinseln und auf der Insel Manila. Zurück in Deutschland wurde er 1834 Professor der philosophischen Fakultät an der Universität in Berlin. 1840 setzte der frühe Tod seinem Wirken ein Ende und seine Arbeiten wurden von den Mitgliedern der Akademie fortgeführt. - Mit 2 Exlibris und Blindprägestempel. Durchgehend etwas stockfleckig und gebräunt. Einband berieben und bestossen.‎

Photographie originale contrecollée sur carton fort légendé, accompagnée de la biographie du sujet.Portrait réalisé par Antoine Meyer, photographe à Colmar, et extrait de "Biographies Alsaciennes" édité en 1884. Charles "Joseph" Émile Koechlin (Mulhouse, 6 décembre 1796 - 25 octobre 1863), connu sous le nom de Koechlin-Schlumberger suite à son mariage avec Caroline Schlumberger, était un industriel, géologue et homme politique français. Il assura la direction de la filature mulhousienne "Schlumberger, Grosjean et Compagnie" (sur le site de la "Dentsch"). Cofondateur de la Société industrielle de Mulhouse (SIM), il en fut le premier bibliothécaire. Formé à l'école de Pestalozzi à Yverdon, il manifesta un réel esprit scientifique en tant que géologue amateur, multipliant les contacts avec des scientifiques, et effectuant de nombreuses visites sur le terrain, par exemple sur la côte normande. Sa Carte géologique du département du Haut-Rhin fut complétée et publiée après sa mort par Joseph Delbos, en 1865. Retiré des affaires à cinquante-cinq ans, il fut nommé maire de Mulhouse en 1852, après avoir été conseiller municipal pendant de nombreuses années. Joseph Koechlin-Schlumberger fut également conseiller général du Haut-Rhin. Passionné par la géologie et les ammonites, il dessina la première carte géologique du Haut-Rhin et écrivit des traités sur les ammonites (Nouvelles études sur les "Ammonites margaritatus" Montfort, et "Ammonites spinatus" Brug.). ‎Einzige Ausgabe. - Meyer, über den ich nichts Weiteres herausfinden konnte, war praktischer Arzt in Berlin u. zum Zeitpunkt der Publikation in Dresden, außerdem Mitglied der Dresdner "Gesellschaft für Natur- und Heilkunde". - "Unter den neueren Werken dieser Art [med. Topographien] gebührt der Schift Meyer's [!] nach Umfang, Reichhaltigkeit und Sorgfalt der Anordnung unbestritten die erste Stelle. Ja, es verdient diese Stelle schon durch seine überaus interessanten statistischen Bemerkungen, die sich selbst über Gegenstände erstrecken, die man sonst in ähnlichen Werken unerörtert findet." ("H. H." in der Jen. Allg. Lit.-Zeitung, 37. Jg., 1841, Sp. 347-349). - Sicherlich spielt der Rezensent damit auf die umfangreichen Abt. Flora, Fauna u. Mineralien um Dresden an. Die weiteren Abschnitte behandeln u.a. Bauart der Wohnungen, nächtliche Beleuchtung, Kleidung, Nahrungsweise u. Reinlichkeit der Bewohner, Vergnügungen, Moralität, Konstitution, Temperament u. Charakter sowie im Besonderen natürlich das Medizinalwesen und Krankheitszustand u. Mortalität.<br> Der vorliegende Band ist (im Gegensatz zur Normalausgabe) auf besserem, kräftigen Papier gedruckt. Stadtplan u. Tafeln sind linienkoloriert, auch enthält der Stadtplan statt 42 insgesamt 89 Bezeichnungen u. umfasst damit auch die Straßen der Vorstädte. - Gebunden ist er von dem Dresdner Buchbinder Otto Bor(r)mann, der zwischen 1840 u. 1860 in den Adressbüchern nachweisbar ist (1861 nur noch seine Witwe).<br> Provenienz: Vorblatt mit gekröntem Monogramm-Stempel "PP".<br> Nicht bei Hirsch/Hüb.
