In questo libro vengono esaminate le principali dipendenze patologiche che affliggono come nuove epidemie la nostra epoca: dalle tossicodipendenze ai disturbi del comportamento alimentare, al gioco d'azzardo, ultimo dramma sociale. Le dipendenze patologiche si inseriscono nella crisi della società attuale dove si assiste a una progressiva incapacità di amare, con un ripiego narcisistico delle persone su se stesse, e al contempo a un allarmante aumento degli episodi di violenza, che la cronaca quotidiana ci propina in modo sempre più pressante e angoscioso. The chapters are well written at a technical level but the main points are not beyond comprehension for those not versed in details of the respective fields. In fact Friedman Klivington and Peterson predated the founding of the International Mind Brain and Education Society; The Educated Brain Battro and Fischer Eds. 2006; Blake and Gardner's "A First Course in Mind Brain and Education 2007; and doctoral programs that integrated theses fields University of Idaho Harvard University and others by decades. Although research has advanced since this edited volume was published and EEG-ERP is not the main investigative tool for non-invasive brain research having been superseded with the ubiquitous use of fMRI MRI and in some extreme cases PET the directions and the questions of the investigators and tentative conclusions are just as valid and important to read now as when this volume was first published. Schoenfeld a pioneer in the field of criminal profiling who was instrumental in solving The Crime of the Century. Just after Charles Lindbergh's baby was kidnapped and well before the arrest of Bruno Richard Hauptmann Dr. Schoenfeld was asked by the authorities to examine the ransom notes and other evidence. Dr. Schoenfeld was able to "construct" a profile of the person who committed the crime. While compilation of a psychological profile is common practice in criminal investigations today in 1932 it was ground-breaking. Dr. Schoenfeld conclusions that the ransom notes were likely written by a German man with a criminal past and that he was probably mechanically adept proved to be surprisingly accurate. .
